Sailing Ship - change of plan

I have just spoken to Grahame and Lamlash will not be available this weekend. Grahame was carrying various repairs and also some modifications for us but due to unforseen circumstances it will not be possible to complete these before the trip. I will send further details by email later.

Outcast is available, but obviously is quite a different platform.
We therefore have no accommodation, no compressor, cannot store J's and can only do one dive per trip. I don't think the logistics of trying to do two dives per day is viable given the change in plans, so I think we're looking at a single dive per day Friday-Monday.

We'd obviously achieve rather less in four dives than we would in seven, and I wonder whether its worth spending just four dives on the Sailing ship as opposed to doing a "normal" weekend. We fairly urgently need to decide what to do so that we can book/cancel accommodation/gas etc

The long range forecast is reasonable, and since we've all kept a space in our diaries I think we should still head down (subject to finding accommodation) and make a go of the weekend.

Please let me know your thoughts - we need to sort this out quickly. I'm sure there will be a divergence of views and I apologise to everyone in advance both for the situation and for the fact that what we do unlikely to be everyone's first choice of alternative option.

Happy to discuss - you should all have my mobile # - please leave a message if I don't answer.

David

Hi David,
There is a question mark over my being able to make it for work reasons.
With Lamlash now unavailable and limited to 1 dive per day, I think I'll now pass. Let me know how much and your bank details and I'll wire you the money.
Best,
John.

David,

I can think of 2 thinks straight off.

Availability of accomodation in Weymouth/Portland being as it is the summer holidays. I think this will drive the outcome to be honest.

Do we need the J's at all? If people had planned to bring 2 x dives worth of gas, we would only need to get 2 x fills from Scimitar diving over the weekend. Or would you plan to get them from Old Harbour divers?

This will be a *big* factor. However, I wanted to canvas opinions before people started booking things piecemeal.

We need to cancel the Js. I would plan to get gas from Scimitar (assuming the plan is that we go diving). We'll probably need a little more than 2 fills, as not everyone was quite able to bring 2 fills and those of us doing T2 dives would probably be better off switching to using a full set of doubles and no bottom gas stage each dive.

Gareth - as you ordered the gas, can you phone Helena/Smudge to cancel the J's and also warn them that we may be looking for fills from their filling station?

David

Can't we still use Lamlash as a floating platform for accomodation etc, or is it now chartered out elsewhere.

I think this will only work if we can use Lamlash this way, at one dive per day, and a maximum of four dives I think we would probably be wastting our time/money.

If Lamlash is a complete no go, then I think the best bet is to cancel.

Andy

PS We would need to let Ricardo know, unless of course some of you still want to go diving at the weekend. Ricardo arrives Thursday evening.

I'm happy to dive still - although happier to dive wrecks elsewhere like a normal DIR UK weekend.

It would be nice not to lose the whole weekend's diving - for some of us it was all we had planned in august (although with the trips I've done I guess I shouldn't complain ).

Lamlash is a complete no go. The areas under repair include the floor in the galley/rear cabin and the stairwell to the main accommodation area.

I would like to go diving so long as we can find accommodation and so long as enough people want to go that it makes sense to run a boat.
