| GUE Instructor/DIRX Moderator | Photos of sailing ship Hi All, As some of you know, I had a hard drive die on me at the end of last week. It would appear that it is the drive and not the USB caddy that is the problem ![]() So, if any of you have Photos from the project week, could you send me a CD or DVD with them on, ideally as JPGs. Thanks John

| GUE Instructor/DIRX Moderator | John It doesn't spin up, and the bios doesn't even see a drive Does the drive spin up or is it totally f***ed? If it will spin up and its only partition table corruption I have some software that you could probably use to get stuff back. Let me know. ![]() J

| Padawan learner | It's a bit touchy but you could try using the controller board from another drive, it'd have ot be the same make and model though and even then you might be wasting your time.

![]() ![]() | Give it a good smack. It's seemed to work on a few drives I've had go south. I'll also recommend the 'freezer trick' -- toss it in the freezer for a bit, then take it out to see if it will work long enough to get the data off. These are both last resort though. Then again it seems like you're at that point already...

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I guess you're aware of it John, but if the data is sufficiently valuable/irreplaceable I've had good (though costly) experiences through work using data retrieval companies who can pull data off the platters of failed disks. If that is of any interest to you I can make enquiries and see who we have used in the past. Tim |
