Weight needed for salt rather than fresh

Hi All,

I'm taking my short body HPDE scooter in the sea tomorrow - how much extra weight would you tend to put in going from fresh to salt? And where would you put it?

Thanks in advance
Al

1kg won't be too far off - it really depends on the battery though.

Put it under the battery and near to the front

Don't know why i'm writing this here as you're out on my boat at the moment, but you can read this when you get back home tomorrow night. :D

But the answer is 3% of the weight. Eg, you plus all gear ways 100kg, add 3kg going to salt water. If you're talking about weighting the scoot, then it's mass is 30kg??? 3% would be 0.9kg. Dunno where you'd put it though

Hope you had fun... hehe

I had some info from Andy and Bob but stupidly forgot to ask where to put the lead. I put a small amount in the rear near the motor and some in the nose. However it was a still too light in the nose and it didn't tend to hang with the top handle facing upwards so steering it was a bit annoying.

More playing required! Thanks for the sensible replies

Cheers
Al

I think I mentioned Sat., we used to use a 'pancake' in the nose cone, held in with gaffer tape.

We used Horsea to practice as it's almost salty, and could have weights on the side.

Dunno if recommendations have changed, but we used to weight for the scooter going neutral at about 6m, with the nose very slightly positive.

Sounds like you've got it set up wrong...

Maybe I misread but...handles should be a 3 and 9 when your not on the trigger. With the weight put it underneath the battery pack towards the front of the pack - no need to play around it will be perfect.

Personally I also prefer the webbing handle down in the resting position that way it can be used for towing too. If you have the webbing handle up (for carrying) you'll need another loop for towing (having two where one will do doesn't seem to be DIR elegance to me)

Hi Graham,

Sorry by top handle I meant webbing handle. I have it so that's at 12 o clock with the rear handgrips at 3 and 9 when not on the trigger. The towing loop may not be as elegant but it's what most people I've seen tend you use

Cheers
Al
