towing short body Gavin

Hi

I yesterday did a dive where i towed my short body as a back up scooter and was wondering if i could have the tow cord better (this is for short body)

I am currently having the tow cord from under clamp at front at where the right handle is and i clip it to my front D-ring, the distance is around 15cm from clamp.

It rides fairly well if i member to "lift" the scooter between my legs.

Any toughts? or how you rig the short body tow cord?

Regards

Teppo

I do the same with the short body, however my tow cord is longer... and can put the boltsnap almost over the nosecone.
think about adding a dedicated tow leash/cord for the short body like you would on a long body if your tow cord is not long enough.
15cm. seems short to me...

Is your short body nicely trimmed, or "nose-up" posture?
I find it impossible to get my short body nice and horizontally trimmed, and if the tail is hanging down you indeed have to remember to pick it up and put it on top of your legs...
(with all the weight in the nose mine still stands up 45 degrees in fresh water)
it's perfect in salt water though with the added weight...

Teppo,
This is best done by using a seperate towing cord. I use a cord of about 15 inches on my scooters, which works well. Some people with long arms can use the regular tow/clip cord, looped through the webbing near the nose as the tow cord.

If you think of the scooter handles at 3 and 9 o'clock when the scooter is not in use, then the tow cord should be at 6 o'clock. This way, the scooter rides above the cord and hence puts it in the slip stream of your tanks.

The scooter should ideally be neutral. It doesn't matter much if the orientation is nose light as once you start moving it will go horizontal. This means that your legs do not need to lift the scooter, but only to guide it into position.

Just for the record, it's easier to tow a standard or magnum scooter :-)

Best,
John.

This was one thing i was tinkering (tried with tow cord, 12 o´clock), I will have change to try this at Sat

I know i know, but at max pen its only a 700m to the entrance and 18amp is enough to pull me or my team mate out ( i got Caverkevins 33 amp body also and will ride a 42amp because of the stability for my planned dive)

Thanx for tips and need to fix the tow set up at friday and try it at Sat

Regards

Teppo

ps. a quick poll of streamlining with trimix stages and scooters, 2 at side or one at side and one at nose clip @ hip

You'll notice a big difference with the changed scooter position. With the tow cord at 12 o'clock, you create far more drag behind you as the scooter is lying directly in the scooter-wash. Or if you're trying to keep it higher by lifting with your legs, your legs will get tired and you'll lose some manouverability.

With 2 stages, it's more comfortable with 1 double-clipped and 1 in tow. However, it's often much faster with them both double-clipped - especially when it comes to drops. But when it comes to empties, I prefer to keep them on a leash which is clipped off

Best,
John.

Anyone have a pic of this 6 o'clock tow cord arrangement? Is it permanently fixed to the band clamp down there?

Thanks
Richard

Hey Teppo!!

With my short body I was placing the webbing handle at 6 o'clock. Then routing the tow cord from the handles up, underneath the body and thru the handle. I could do this with the standard (33Ahr) as well.

As for you little poll. I do not like nose clipping to my left hip. Just to much happening there. Either all go up front or on a leash and stowed between the legs back with the other scooters. Only bottle I really like to nose clip is my O2 bottle. I nose clip it to a D-ring on my light can. (Oh man did I just admit to diving rich on right ) As I am usually dumping that off in the entrance of a cave very soon.

Hope you and your buddies are having fun scootering!!!

Cheers!!

Kevin
