Wrecks of Scapa

The vast majority of divers end up diving the wrecks of the flow for obvious reasons, but there are quite a lot of wrecks outside that are seldom visited. As the flow is silting up, the main attractions can be less attractive!
Here is a link to some wrecks outside the flow.

Diving Scapa Flow - Sunrise Dive Charters: Wreck Page

Apart from the Hampshire, I haven't dived outside the flow. I guess for the King Edward, it would depend entirely on local conditions on the day - the weather can change quite rapidly.

Here is a link to a website that shows the current state of the wrecks within the flow (from sonar images)

http://www.divernet.com/cgi-bin/arti...action=display

There are three primary deep wrecsks around Orkney; HMS Hampshire (68m), HMS King Edward VII (105m) and HMS Pheasant (85m). Here is a link to a site that talks about all 3.

You can find another list of deeper wrecks here

Scapa Flow Diving & John's Charters - Wreck Page

So, in short, there is plenty to do if you want to dive outside the flow, but we are far more dependant on weather conditions to explore these!

John.

There's a wreck guide at Finstrokes Rebreather and Scuba diving website

It's an interactive map interface thingie which is a pain in the arse to use but there's a fair bit of info there.

It's a software package that allows you to view and manipulate the 3D scans as shown in the above article. Although the software and models are not yet commercially available, the trial download that is available includes a model of the SMS Brummer which is interesting to look at.
