Defensive/sensitive. Good/bad

I notice that the forum produces some very knee jerk reactions to alot of things resulting in defensive sometimes aggressive posting especially relating to :-

Equipment manufacturer choice
Agency choice
Individuals

It often seems out of all proportion to me.

Am I the only one who would like to see a little more positive on the forum, and a little less negative?

Over all the forum excels. Let's build on the good.

Happy diving

Martin

Suppose people get passionate about their passions.

On this forum I would say it's a bad thing.

The perception of DIR/GUE is that it is a joke.
Personaly I'll never be DIR ( I think it's bolocks as every thing is a compramise so how can it be right) and I'll never be 100% GUE, I may persue GUE training but will never adopt comletely. That said I think GUE has a lot to offer and will listen and take what ever I can from the agency, just the same as I'll continue to do from, TDI, IANTD, BSAC, PADI ......

BAck to why it's a bad thing is a GUE "fundamentalist" makes a laughing stock of the entire training organisation. they created the stero typlical image of DIR and still feed wood to the flames, I must have missed it on my course but there appearsto be a part in the pre course reading that makes you preach to any one who will listen, and shout to any one who don't want to listen. Once attending a Tec or cave course this need seams to have been removed (mostly) and the people become normal again, stop forcing their views down peoples necks and become responcive to new ideas again.
Just my views

Show me a dir fundamentalist preaching about how good they're course was and I'll show you an Open water or Ocean diver raving about how good diving is, or a UW photographer going on about how good their new camera is, or maybe an O3 drysuit owner going on and on about how good O3 is...

the problem is the people that take offence. It's only natural that when someone discovers something new that they like, they enthuse about it.

Lol, it's just a hobby Fin, and we all do it in different ways.

In the famous words of Ian Flemming... Live and let dive

It is good to hear another opinion about this, and of course we are all passionate about what we do (took the words right out of my mouth, Brian ).

I'd also like to point out that there are arseholes in every agency, they are not GUE-specific.

Myself... well... I like just about everybody. I like people for who they are, not how they dive. It doesn't mean I would necessarily do a dive with everyone I like, but they are still people, and I will show them the same respect that they show me.

I like what Brian said, that Ian said... "Live and let dive."

PeterB is on a distinguished road

As I've said before, I'm back to diving, too far from the sea, new to DIR and, it has to be said I can get a bit serious at times.

All that done and dusted I reckon it's a pretty sound diving forum without excessive crap.

Gets my vote anyway.
