![]() ![]() ![]() | Thanks guys! Well it's been a very very sad night yesterday and everybody here in Dahab is in a big shock as to what happened. As you can imagine there was total chaos. I live only half a mile from where the bombs detonated and as we rushed to help there were dozens of bodies carried away already with most locals and the police trying to stop foreigners from getting close. Well after Taba and Sharm i guess it was just a matter of time but somehow we always thought that Dahab has not become such a focus point yet. Hmm with all the worlds media here today trying to cover this terrible event i guess that's changed. Osama |

It really shakes me to the bone when suddenly everything I see in the news shows up in our own backyard. My thoughts and prayers are for you and all those touched by this tragedy.

| New Member | hi guys I just wish to show this letter to everyone ... it was puplished in Italian newspapers!!! With this letter, I would like to tell the world of my experiences and feelings regarding the recent terrorist events in Dahab, Egypt, from the perspective of omeone who lived everything from a very close distance. Now, after the event, we have the incredible realization of being alive, of having survived, and the need to celebrate the joy and beauty of life. A never-ending celebration, which perhaps no one -not directly experiencing the event- can understand. At the same time, there is bitterness and anger. Feelings not resulting from a naivety at the existence of a small minority of sick individuals, - whose goal i s to ruin the lives of innocent, hard working people, - but anger and disappointment with media coverage of the event. The macabre desire to focus only on the carnage and destruction of the bombs, and to lose sight of the message, that life for the local people of Dahab, carries on. That the message of their courage, strength and fortitude in condemning these hideous acts, and the immediate focus on the rebuilding of their city, was lost in the sensationalism of the moment. The world is already painfully aware that terrorist attacks do not accomplish anything positive, and only serve to condemn the terrorists, and their twisted ideologies, to the ranks of histories losers. Dahab is a message of hope. No person or organization, no matter how evil, could ever boast of having changed the mutual aim of cultural exchange, dialogue and peace. The European media suggests tourists avoid the Dahab area, as if in some simplistic way, we should hide, cease to enjoy our lives in freedom, and let the enemy win. That then, everything will be alright. Nothing could be further from the truth, Life is to be lived now. The beautiful nature of this place doesn't deserve to be poisoned by the stupid games of madmen. The sea is bigger than this, the desert more vast, our lagoon is still blue and filled with natures bounty, and the incredible stars in the night sky, still breathtaking. The horrible, deranged acts of few, pale in comparison to all of this… Then, there is from my side unlimited admiration, in observing the incredible speed at which the local people recovered from this event to begin the rebuilding process. Not even 24 hours after the fact, the exploded bridge, the broken windows, destroyed shops and restaurants, were being cleaned up and repaired. Friends were lending each other the money they didn't have for themselves, to begin repairs, with a look of determination in their eyes that sometimes made me shiver – and being a part of this common reconstruction is extremely flattering. The terrorists have given us, in few seconds, world-wide notoriety and for the first time everybody knows the name DAHAB. We never wanted or imagined that it would have happened like this, but it did. We must now go forward in a positive way, using this moment to promote the good and wonderful side of Dahab. As a European I realize that everywhere in the world we are on the same ship. Terrorist activities are a fact of life around the world, and I am personally tired of hiding my head in the sand of our "comfortable western world", thinking every day that poverty and terrorism only exist in a world separate to ours. As any human body after a wound, the scar remains, but in that point the skin gets thicker, and it prepare itself to experience the world with a bigger resistance. Not to demonstrate hate or rage towards anybody, ever, but exclusively for love, to themselves and to all the rest of the human genre, even with all its imperfections and dystrophies. Dahab family has overcome, undamaged, its baptism by fire, and now it can truly be called a family. We will be here to welcome you with open arms. The sea is waiting for us. The wind of the desert is ready to give you all the legendary African nostalgia that you will know when you return. Don't focus on fear and destruction. Focus on the moment of rebirth and the rise of the Arabic Phoenix. All of the European Community of Dahab has decided to stay. We hug you and go on with our work of promotion of Beduin, Egyptian and international culture. After the winter of meanness now comes the spring of the start up towards the standards of the best exotic destinations, or better said, towards the bottom of the Red Sea… J Dahab remains a safe, fun and exotic destination for travelers from all parts of the world…| Come and join us and make Dahab better than ever !!! On Wednesday we offered dives for everybody in remembrance of our victims. See web-site : www.redsea-rangers.com A warm hug to everybody. Red Sea Rangers Family, bye Sonia-Aicha-Serravalli |
