Hi,

I've only just started diving having done my OW with PADI in India over christmas, I'm now back in the UK and I've booked to finish my AOW (I started it in India too) + Drysuit + Nitrox, can't wait to get back in the water, I just hope the drysuit + undersuit + whatever else I cram on, is warm enough as I think it maybe a bit of shock to the system!

Obviously the whole DIR stuff is a bit overwhelming at the moment so I think I'll do a few dives the PADI way until I am at least comfortable with that before moving on, I am however taking mental notes abotu some of the general principals.

In addition my housemate has decided to do his OW as well so I imagine he will be my usually buddy so any decision to change will have to be a joint one.

I've now acquired most of the kit by hook or crook except a BC (on the basis that whatever sort of diving I do I'll need most of it!), I know most of you will suggest a BP + wing but I'll only be diving singles for a while and think I'll want to try a few Jacket BCD's and BP +wing combos before I purchase anything.

Welcome,
You will find most GUE trained divers started out with other agencies. And a great many of us are active PADI instructors as well. You will find that the two systems are mutually beneficial, so don't get hung up on the differences look at the similarities.
If you would like to do some of your AOW or speciality training with a 'DIR' approach let me know. I can probably rustle up a single wing and BP for you as well.

AOW + speciality already booked and paid for I'm afraid 20/21 Feb, counting the days, looking at free weekends/days off as "wasted" etc.
