Greetings from Cape Town, South Africa

Hello all

Well I've been lurking since Feb this year, so I guess it's time to get the formalities out of the way.

Diving since 1992, joined False Bay Underwater Club in 1998 and became an instructor in 1999. I've always been seeking ways to improve my diving and I eventually stumbled onto DIR in 2000 :-)

I did DIR-F with AG in Cape Town in 2004, and failed it miserably(!) I repeated it in 2005 with ST and passed. My favourite course to teach is rescue since it's one of the few courses where you have a chance of changing people's attitudes... I just completed a normoxic trimix course this month and it was blast since we had awesome conditions and I did a few wrecks which I've been wanting to dive for a loooonng time!

With the kind help of John Grogan and Andy Kerslake, I started the DIR-SA in and GUE-SA email lists in 2003 to try & get like minded people together in SA and get some info out there.

I am also the importer and distributor of OxyCheq, DIR-Zone and Gultex products in South Africa.

Welcome!

Welcome, Monty!

I am a newbie here, but I had to welcome you. It's nice to see a familiar name from SA.

Missing you all and the diving on the Cape. What wrecks did you get out to? Have conditions so far this winter been good?

Sonya

Hey Sonya - It's great to hear from you!

We did the SATS General Botha and the SAS Bloemfontein. We has AWSOME viz and surface conditions - it's been like an Indian Summer ... we had 20 meters viz on the wreck of the Rockeater yesterday!

We've also had great dives on the SAS Fleur and the Lusitania with a school of snoek on the one and schooling yellowtail on the other wreck :-)

Hello Monty, Cape Town eh? You poor sod how the hell do you manage to cope with the glorious view of table mountain and the plentiful supply of steak and crayfish at the sports bar on the waterfront - it must be hell.

Hello and welcome, I'm sort of part SA.

Totsiens

Noel.

Welcome, I have spent some time in the Cape Town area with work, 4 weeks in Arniston was a ball and if it wasn't a 12 hr flight away I would be there in a shot.

Dived off Gansbaii for one day while I was there last April and it was that trip that got me back into diving.

Regards
