DIR Explorers - the next step in DIR Diving!

Welcome back Unregistered

DIR diving is a fast growing approach to diving. Be it technical or recreational, wreck, cave or reef, DIR diving can be relevant to the diving that you do. Jump in on our DIR forums, find out more about who we are, what we do, and how we do it.

DIRX is a DIR diving forum run by DIR divers for both DIR divers and those who are interested in learning more about our approach to diving. There is a lot of information around on the internet about DIR, we hope to bring it together here, at DIRX, into one resource which each of us can use.

So look around, tell us who you are, what you would like to see from DIRX, ask some questions, post reports of diving that you have done, or would like to do.

Safe Diving all from Graham Blackmore, Brian Allen and all of us in the DIRX Team.

A buddy of mine and I are considering a week of deep wreck diving in Sardinia in February next year. Is that realistic as far as weather is concerned? Or is it better to wait a bit longer?

Best wishes,

» Great White Shark encounter off Catalina island

Aug 29, 2014 - 5:58 PM - by Karim
During one of our ghost nets clean-up dive off Catalina island, the Los Angeles Underwater Explorers (LAUE) came face to face with a pregnant female great white. The encounter was amazing and lasted about 4 minutes. The shark was circling around the documentation team (Cyrille Rio and Landyn Froehlich) from 150 ft upward, while the net cutting team came down and met the two divers and shark at 110ft.

The daily assignment for the documentation team was to

» Subsurface 4.2 with interaktive planer

Aug 09, 2014 - 10:11 AM - by krautrob

I am proud to announce version 4.2 of Subsurface, the open source five log for all common operating systems.

In particular, I would like to mention the new interactive dive planer that lets you see immediately the resulting dive plan upon changes of parameters (depth, bottom time, gradient factors, gases etc.).

You can download from http://subsurface.hohndel.com

anyone have an idea where to get these?

» UTD Z-Sidemount

Aug 03, 2014 - 10:50 AM - by nichtyz
Hi guys! I am new to this community and look forward to learning more from you guys! I am currently using UTD's Z-side mount system. I'm just wondering if there is anyone else here that use this system. I am interested in finding out how can I dive with 3 tanks. Mainly doubles and a deco bottle. When I am diving doubles there just doesn't seem to be space for a 3rd bottle anymore. Thanks in advance for the tips and knowledge shared!

Hi just thought I'd introduce myself.
I've been diving since 2009 but took a couple of years out in between career changes. Started up again in Dec just gone and have got the bug again.
I don't currently dive DIR style but I'm slowly converting bit by bit. Currently BSAC DL but hoping to do fundies later this year or early next year.
Been lurking for a few weeks on the forum hoping to pick up plenty of tips and advice.
Look forward to chatting to some of you on... [Read More]

Jul 24, 2014 - 11:03 AM - by Rubis
Hi !

I am going to Budapest the first two weeks in september and I would like to dive Molnar Janos.

Can somebody point me to who to contact to make that happen ? I am tech 1 with GUE and Full cave with NACD/NSS-CDS.
If somebody could help me locally for borrowing some gear, so that I don't have to bring the whole thing for just a couple of dives I would appreciate it as well ... [Read More]

Does anyone know of a DIR dive centre in Clearwater. We have booked a surprise trip for the kids to the house of mouse next November & have 6 nights in Clearwater so it would be rude not to try & have a bubble.
