Course chart...

Would someone be able post a flow chart showing progression in GUE (or just explain it!)
What do you have to have to take what course? I quite like PADI's one where it is easily laid out and think it may be useful to have here so you can map progress to what you want to do!

Cheers

Ok, It's like this:

Recreational:
- Fundamentals
- Rec Level 1 *
- Rec Level 2 *
- Rec Level 3 *

Technical:
- Tech 1
- Tech 2
- Tech 3
- Rebreather

Cave:
- Cave 1
- Cave 2
- Cave 3

If you are already a diver, then you start with Fundamentals. You need to have a Technical Pass at Fundamentals in order to progress to Tech1 or Cave1. If you want to take Tech2 you need to have Tech1, If you want to take Tech3 you need to have Tech2. The same applies with the Cave Courses. To take the Rebreather course you need to have Tech2, and a good reason.

John

So...

So as an example - if you wish to take say cave 2 would you have to be Tech 2 trained AND Cave 1 trained, or just tech 1 then cave 1?
Also is there a wreck penetration course???

Hi,

No, the Cave and Tech curriculums are seperate. To do Cave 2, you need to be Cave 1 qualified.

There is no wreck penetration course.

Oops, I missed one thing out.

To do Cave 3, you need to be both Tech2 and Cave2, and to do Tech3 you need to be both Tech2 and Cave1.

Hi John,

Are the rec courses building on Fundies and working to advance diving skills in a recreational context? I'd got the impression from conversation they were more of a pre-fundies 'learn from scratch' set of courses, but your flow chart seems to be suggesting otherwise. Have I misinterpreted?

If I haven't, do you have any tidbits of info as to what kind of skill development might be worked on with these courses?

Tim

Rec Level 1 will be the GUE Open Water course. Rec 2 and 3 are more advanced recreational courses.

As for tidbits, there will be skill development, done with high precision

Sounds excellent! Stop reading BBS, get back to your OW course focus group

Hi All;

I wonder what are the requirements to pass Rec 1...

I am sure that GUE is taking in consideration that for most OW divers the simple fact to breath underwater is a challenge (jump from a boat, breath by the mouth, etc...do you remember your very first dive and your class mates ?) , let alone buoyancy and forget about trim....

I am convinced that Rec 1 can be a very good tool to "spread the DIR virus" and is not going to become the same as learning how to drive in one of those amateur driving racing schools (good skills but well ahead of you)....I am sure that JJ and the team have put in place a great program.
