![]() | DSMB deployemt...........again. Right, I'm pretty sure the answer is going to be NO! But my question is this.If diving with a wetsuit and I had a Halcyon LP inflate SMB(the big one) is it OK to leave my Drysuit inflation hose on my regs to be used for SMB deployment, and stash it down the side of the courrgated hose when not in use? Up to now I've either used a tradition baffled type SMB and used my long hose to inflate, or I've used a 1m Frog Oral inflate when conditions allow. I know the larger Halcyon SMB will be usefull for my diving here in the UK, but I was just wondering if it could be used on -30m dives in the Red Sea? Cheers. Greg |

| Moderator | I only took my small 3' oral inflate smb with me to the redsea. I deployed it just before surfacing on each dive. There is no way I would surface on some of the dive sites like elphinstone without one - way too many zodiacs flying about. The only time I might have needed a larger one was on a dive on the Brothers when we were put in the wrong place and therefore surfaced where we weren't expected, all 4 of us deployed once on the surface. |

![]() | Yeah, I had no problems when diving on day boats from Sharm, but in October I'm doing a liveaboard in the deep-south, where they seem to have a bad habit of occassionally losing people, so I was thinking of a decent sized marker ![]() |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Greg If all I had on me was like a 4.5" Halcyon bag with LP connector, then I would keep a drysuit inflator hose on my reg / left post and run it down the left side of my body (in front of the wing) and store it under the waist band. This way it's trapped and can't get anywhere, but is easily accessible and re-stowable. andy |

Only joking. Seems sensible to me especially as even with a little swell, the 1 metre frog is not very visible and i definitely wouldn't want to hang onto one for 14 hours whilst circled by sharks with my face burning off from the harsh sun. (i hope that this never happens to any of us) |

It depends. Are you over 21? If not then you should ask your parents first. ![]()

![]() | It depends. OK so I asked my dad and he said:Are you over 21? If not then you should ask your parents first. ![]() "What? Drysuit? Buoyancy aid? Bottom Timer with ascent rate? What you need all that for, when I dived you wore a wetsuit in 8degree water or 2 wetsuits if it was colder. You had one 1st stage and one 2nd stage after all you only have one mouth, depth guage told you how deep you were to the nearest 10fathoms, you didn't need a timer coz you came up when the needle on your SPG started to move with any breath and you only went up as fast as the smallest bubbles." So it's been a while since my Dad was into his diving, he remembers when he thought he was cool when he got an ABLJ, but never used it for buoyancy? |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | 4Ga flares are serious flare cartridges, they are 26.5mm diameter and around 6" long without the optional parachute. They go up around 200m and if fired at a 45° angle should travel at least 300-350m. Loud too! Michael |
