![]() | The old ways were cooler I just read over the procedural changes, and I have to say the old names and acronyms just sound better to my ear. In particular, I prefer SADDDDD to GUE EDGE (because it's sadddd if you don't do it). Naming a pre-dive check after the agency just seems kind of cheesy. It might be seen to imply that pre-dive checks are an edge GUE has over others, or that their pre-dive checks are better. If PADI renamed the "buddy check" the PADI EDGE it would also be sort of uncool. And "rock bottom" is so much cooler than "minimum gas" (the new rock bottom) that it doesn't even need to be explained. I know it's just semantics but I've seen a ton of people pissed off by the DIR acronym alone because it seems to imply that others are doing it wrong. Just saying... |

As long as it allows divers to remember the checks easier does it really matter. I mean surely GUE EDGE is better than SADDDDD because if you miss a letter out in a word it is more easily noticed. In particular, I prefer SADDDDD to GUE EDGE (because it's sadddd if you don't do it). I think there is a lot more things within DIR that would more strongly imply that other people are doing it wrong rater than an acronym which in my mind doesn't actually imply anything of the sort. Just my thoughts but it could be the 1664 speaking Dan |

GUE EDGE doesn't describe just dive plan in short but it has equipment check included. Do "GUE EDGE" before you jump over the edge In particular, I prefer SADDDDD to GUE EDGE (because it's sadddd if you don't do it). Naming a pre-dive check after the agency just seems kind of cheesy. Regarding rock-bottom, I agree that it is cooler then MGR but the explanation for non-original English speakers is almost impossible. Basicaly we had to learn minimum gas reserve concept and then to learn it was called "rock-bottom". |
