![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I apologise if this is old hat http://www.scubaboard.com/showthread...=124463&page=1 but I was having my Sunday afternoon mooch about the boards............and after the accidents thread, a spell on thedecostop via YD I ended up here. I found it an interesting read, although I only got up to page 2, and am going back to finish it off. So if the wheels fall off, don't blame me! Dianne Update : Page 3 is good! | Resident purveyor of shiney kit.... | Well thats about as good a thread since the "Ex Halcyon employee goes to the Big House" on decostop. From what I just read (all of it) it comes down, as with all agencies to the quality of the Instructor, not necessarily the Agency issuing the cert. I never thought I'd say this :D but here in the UK thank God for Mr K and Mr W, we all know who they are. Rich, thats especialy true after my Fundies ![]() I think it's a shame that yet again the teaching of good skills gets kind of sidetracked by this agency v that agency. IMHO the skills from DIR-F are the ones we all SHOULD have been taught by whatever Agency we started with. I'm just glad I found the people who were capable of showing me where the bar should be, although it looks a bloody long way up from here. It makes me safer and my diving more enjoyable. It's a shame that the AG v GUE happened IMHO, probably 6 of one and half a dozen of the other, as all these things end up being. But I think they both lost something of value to the other. I'm glad I found the GUE crew in the UK, as I now have good friends I wouldn't otherwise have. I've had more offers of help / coaching / lets just get wet than I ever did before which has to be good. I'm slowly becoming a better diver ( I hope) and the underwater world is more enjoyable as I do. Politics and money as always spoil things. ![]()

| New Member | Hi Its all kind of irrelevant here in the UK. Andrew always complained about the lack of materials available, or rather, the students complained and Andrew agreed, but there is only one Naui instructor who I would take a course from and that would be Andrew himself, as he is a great instructor. I wouldn't take a cave class with him though, and I feel I was lucky to be able to take my cave classes with Tyler before he quit. You can't take a course from Andrew in the UK, you have to travel to the Red Sea. My own gripe about all this is the general lack of GUE instructors who can teach the higher levels, Tech2 and above. For those of us who took Tech1 over two years ago this is beginning to get annoying. I guess Tech 3 is just a fictional course ![]() Andy

So we ARE giving them away. :D Mind the door doesn't hit your ar*es on the way out boys ![]()

I'm far from getting into any of the Tech stuff but I had a browse of the instructor list last night. I know they have a smaller number than most agencies but I was suprised how few higher level tech/cave/RB instructors there are.RB - JJ and David Rhea Cave 2&3 - JJ, David Rhea, Christophe le Maillot, Daniel Riordan Tech 2 - Dan Mackay, Achim R.Schloffel Tech 3 - Mario Arena, Richard Eric Lundgren, JJ Not many names. I guess AG was Tech 3 and cave. Tyler moon was Cave 3 and tech IIRC. I hope more people can move their way up (come on Kerslake) ![]() |
