| Chimp 2 | Can someone explain to me what the insurance is for in the UK please, and which level of insurance would be required just to do a fundies course in the UK. Dan insurance covers the following Medical transportation Cost of hospitalization ]Hyperbaric therapy Medical costs for the emergency treatment of a diving injury Repatriation cost Costs of extra expenses incurred for hotel and air fare caused by a prolonged forced stay following the underwater accident Any following Medical Specialist costs, related to the treatment of a covered diving injury Loss of diving gear left behind in an accident during medical evacuation Civil liability toward third parties Daily allowance for hospital stay following an indemnifiable accident---- Permanent invalidity Search and Recovery Repatriation of mortal remains With the exception of the 3rd party element, assuming one has life and kit insurance, what do I need any of this for?

| Padawan learner | well most of it really applies for places where healthcare is at a premium but in the UK we have the NHS. I'm only thinking of getting it as the GUE website says i need it. Is helicopter pickup and recompression treatment cost free under the NHS or will you get landed with a big bill?

![]() ![]() ![]() | I'm with garf on this one there are no medical or evacuation costs in the UK - and even in some European countries these will not be incurred because of reciprocal agreements the one piece that might need to be mandatory is 3rd party liability insurance - but the 50,000.00 Euros cover under the DAN policy would frankly be laughable (too low) in the UK if you were found to be liable for death or injury For Fundies in the UK, are we still required to have this total level of cover (even if unneccessary / insufficient)? vid NB important news for those UK divers who travel to france etc for their regular cave fix - the old UK E111 forms are no longer valid - you must have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) to receive healthcare in an EEA country or Switzerland |

You can get a snazzy EHIC on-line by going to www.ehic.org.ukThese aren't mandatory, they just entitle you to receive reduced cost (or free) medical care when in Europe. There are other ways of receiving free medical care (like insurance for example). |
