![]() | helium/trimix supply Scotland Hay list, in july a group of DIR divers will go to the St Abbs area. Since a few years it's possible to have Nitrox-fillings. That was good news! ![]() But in that area (Berwick) are some wrecks at the 40m range and since we've experienced the great advantages of diving helium mixtures I only want to dive 30m+ dives with 30/30 and the 40m range with 21/35. So question: Is it possible to get these fillings in that area? If yes : where? prices? If not: what a pitty Petra |

![]() | There's probably somewhere better (closer), but Cormeton Dive Support is the only place I know of, but its about 60 miles south of Berwick, in a place called Seaton Delaval. Depending on how many refills you'll need, it might be worth the journey... particularly as Cormeton is generally MUCH cheaper than anywhere else for fills (£3.50 per cylinder for any nitrox mix... within reason, ie generally maximum of 50% in a 12l). I'd imagine their helium prices would be similarly generous, but i've never used it myself so can't give any more details. David |

![]() | thanks! we certainly wouldn't use it all dives. Only for those wrecks with an average deeper than 33 which are worth to dive on. so 60miles is about 90km? 6 divers X2 = 12 bottles of fillings. I think it's worth the drive. I'll check what google says about wrecks and Cormeton. Maybe plans can change again.... |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Petra I would make initial enquiries with Iain at http://www.aquastars.co.uk/. They're locted in Eyemouth, which is minutes from St Abbs. I don't believe they have trimix normally, but you never know, they could get it arranged for your group. They've also got a membrane compressor. Also give Amanda a call at Scoutscroft Diving Centre - (018907) 71669. Again, they don't have trimix normally, but were looking to get it in at one point. Partial pressure filling only. Failing all that, get in your car and drive to EDC in Edinburgh. They do trimix, and have a haskel. Multimap puts EDC 50 miles from St Abbs. There's also a small chance that I could provide you with helium and optionally a haskel. Let me know if there's any space on your trip! ![]() andy |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi Petra We dive fairly regularly out of St Abbs and I think you'll be struggling for wrecks, there is the Glanmire of course, a fairly broken up wreck in 32m of water, there is one in 50m which is about one hours boat ride away and then there is one in about 70m (Tech2 depths) this is fundamentally it according to the skipper that we regularly use.. Billy Aitchison http://www.rockhousediving.com/ Of course there are many wrecks further south from this location, further north too but the travel times in the relatively slow hardboats based in St Abbs make these wrecks fairly inaccessible from this location. If you were to drive 30 to 40 minutes south of St Abbs you can get to Seahouses where there is access to many more wrecks from recreational depths around the Farne Islands to deeper Tech 1/2 depths further out, this is the guy that I would contact for a days diving, another good skipper, huge boat with tail lift, regularly takes out Tech divers.. William Sheil jnr. 07799 666573 HTH's Like Andy, I'd be very interested to come along and join you all for a dive or two if there are spaces, it would be great to meet up with some of you guys from the mainland. Cheers and beers Dave |

![]() | Davy and Andrew, thanks for the tips! St Abbs will be our base for our trip: near scoutscraft. We used to go at their camping site but their renting licens for that part has expired this year ![]() I'll try to work something out with aquastar. Maybe they still remember us from last year. Glanmire is a nice wreck. But not an easy one with the short dive window. Definitly one on the programme this year if the weathergods are in our favor. Farne islands are also added to the list. It has indeed more sites for nitrox-dives. Berwick has some deeper ones for wich we'd need the helium so I'll see what the shop in Edingburgh can do. Our dive plan is getting more and more concreet now. So we'll keep you posted. I'll check within the group and the skipper about extra "seats" and mail it to you. seems like a great idea meeting some UK'ers ![]() |
