Aladin Tec help wanted

I'm having major problems linking my Aladin Tec to the SmartTrak software via the Infra Red port. I've tried it on 2 laptops each with IR connections that work but no connection is made.

All I do is activate the Dive Transfer on the Smarttrak and wave the Tec madly in front of it but still no connection. Am I missing a step in the process or should I take it back.

That's the only thing I'm unhappy about on this though - in gauge mode it has a great one button stop watch facility and the digits are big enough fo rme to see!

Rub it gently and someone will contact you shortly.. :D

My IR speed is 115200, minimum wait 1.0 mS. And i have no problems downloading data.

I could be your IR driver though, maybe you should try to update it, also bright light could interfere with the connection(or so they say). Remember to turn the (dive)computer on.

Cheers
Jonas

Once you finally get it figured out, be careful to limit the amount of time you do transfers. I know several people that burned a lot of the computer battery power doing repeated transfers on the Smart Com. Don't know if it's the same on the Tec, but just thought I'd give you a heads up.

I have had absolutely no problems with downloading.

All I do is activate the aladin and put it in front of the IR port.
My laptop then already detects the aladin as some sort of IR device.

Push the transfer button in the smart track software and a few seconds later it's done...

Never touched a setting for IR on either the pc or aladin...
even when I later switched the download speed on the aladin it stilll worked.

Are you sure you use the correct smart track version?
it needs to specifically support the aladin tec.

So could either be your IR port settings on your pc? or (probably not) the smart track software.

I've had people bring there tecs back to my shoip complaining that the IR didn't work. In every single case there was no problem with the dive computer as they would all connect to my laptop. the majority of the problems came from faulty USB IR devices or, hardware settings for IR were not turned on, on their own computers.

BTW laying the Tec about 3-4 inches away from the IR port with both ports in line is the best way to site the devices... i have visions of a similar thing happening with my dad trying to make the mouse work by waving it infront of the screen... and then there was the time he told off my ex girlfriend for emailing thailand because long distance emails must be expensive.... hoho oh well back to work

Thanks for the comments guys.

I've tried re-installing my laptops Infrared port but still nothing. I've also adjusted speed of response and updating the drivers but still nothing.

My mobile phone communicates with the laptop ok so I'm thinking that either the Tec is not working as it should or there is something not quite compatible with the link. My next move is to use a USB Infra Red dongle thing on my main PC and see what joy that brings.

And I'm doing all this after 6pm so that it is cheaper - neat thinking eh Brian?

For some reason I needed a dongle and then it worked fine, also make sure that the transfer facility is turned on, on the Tec.

I know that sounds daft but it can be turned off!!!

It can???

Bugger - tell me how to make sure its on. I've not seen this in the manual but <<<going into Rant mode>>> why do suppliers print manuals in such small print. My eyes aren't what they used to be - they used to be the best organ of my body. Now, due to natural aging, they are the second best organ<<<end of rant>>>:D
