Riva Italy June 2008

G'day Folks,

I have never been to Italy before but I'm going to Riva del Garda in June 2008 for work. Hard life I know, lol!

Anyway I know that the lake there is suposed to be great for diving but I could also hire a car or take a train down to the coast.

I've started looking through the web but I thought I'd ask all you northern hemisphere divers for some guidance.

Please attach websites or destinations for some good diving spots and or resorts etc that would keep this little deep rust freak happy. I also like pretty fishies.

Cheers
Dave

Hi Dave,
most well known DIR outfit in Italy:

http://portofinodivers.com/en/home.htm

Must be about 300 KM from where youŽll be staying but still well worth a visit IMHO.

Excellent group of people and some great wrecks.
CanŽt remember any pretty fish..... apart from the moon fish and the dolphins of course!

HTH
Rob

Hi,

I had written a response yesterday that Explorer ate up and I was saying that I hoped Loredana would chime in and here she is :D

Anyways ... if you want to dive the Haven, you can use techdive they are located in Arenzano and the ride to the Haven is very short, just 900m !

The dives in Portofino, which is 45 min by car from Arenzano, offer plenty opportunities of rec sites with pretty Mediterranean fishes.

If you cave dive, you are approx 1h30 hours from the best cave diving in Italy. The caves are located in Val Stagna, close to Vicenza.

Take care

Cris

What other people have said about Portofino is very true, very
beautiful place and nice dive sites.

If you ever think of going North and to Switzerland and want to dive in great
viz, check out Verzasca Valley and its river. The viz is around 40 meters,
the dives are not very demanding except, of course, if the water flow in
the river is high (well, then it would be too dangerous anyways)
Just the beauty of the place and the viz wants me go back.

We go there on and off from Zurich so if you want, you can always
come along and join us.

HPIM0406

And, of course, if that's not enough thrill, you can always do world's highest
off ground bungee jump. Even standing on the dam, got me weak.

Bungy Jumping like James Bond in Goldeneye

Also Lago Maggiore is worth visit, nice wall dives. We'll be going there summer 2008 for some dives so feel free to join.

Wonderful People

G'day All,

Loredana, I have sent you a PM, thanks for your reply.

Rebis, not much into caves although they are tempting, Rust and salt still hold my fascination at the moment. Thanks for your reply, the Haven sounds awesome, definately a must!! Wanna come to Arenzano in June and catch up with Loredana and I for the Haven? Just a thought!

Jussi, thanks for your reply. You guys look like you have a ball in that river. The Haven has me sold on travelling south, from Riva del Garda to Portofino and Arenzano. Thankyou for your offer and no doubt sometime in the future I'll manage to get further north. Thanks!

Riva is not on the shortest way from Munich to Arenzano, but diving the Haven is worth to go a way round and I could give You a lift
