DIR in the UK

Not sure if this is in the right place, but here goes...

I was just reading Al's article about DIR in the UK and saw the following:

I met Graeme earlier this year - I bought some kit off him through eBay and, as he only lives down the road from me, I popped round his house to collect it. Anyway, he told me that he and Sue were giving up diving altogether, hence the reason he was selling his gear. When asked why, he explained that diving had nothing new to offer him so he was moving on to a new challenge (he did saw what it was, but I forget). I wish that I hadn't been in so much of a hurry that night as Graeme seemed inclined to spend some time telling me about what he'd done

Now I've written it, I'm not sure what the point of this post is, but I think that this brief meeting with an early proponent of DIR in the UK made me investigate the system more thoroughly and led me down this path.
