German needed....

I've bought some regs on ebay but can't work out how to pay for them.... the message just says bank transfer but I can't find account number or anything and apparently I can't bank transfer out of the UK....

Is there a german member of this board who could pay for me if I paypal them the money - covering all charges of course - or else help me talk to the seller to sort this out.

I can't help with the translation, but I can confirm that you can do a Euro bank transfer from the majority of UK bank accounts as you probably know.

If you do the transfer in Euro and accept all charges at your end there should be no charges at his end so you just need to get the account details.

However he may not want this as it can take a while to arrive unlike transfers within the German banking system which are very fast.

I paid for my SLR housing by a transfer to a Belgian bank which took 3-4 days and there was a cost of approximately £25 involved which I didn't mind adding as I still got a bargain!

If you can contact him, ask for the IBAN number of his account and you should then be able to get your bank to arrange a Euro Transfer.

Transfers from UK to most "Western" countries take 3 working days. Assuming that the transder is under 50,000 Euro (and within the EU) then the sender's bank's charges must be paid the sender and the recipient's bank's charges paid by the recipient. If sending outside the EU you have a choice of which charges to pay. The bank charge for the transfer will probably be £20 for the UK side (the last two I made were both £20) and I believe that the recipient's charges are about £8-15.

You'll also need rather more detail than for transfers within the UK:
Account holder's name
Bank name
Bank address
IBAN bank account number
SWIFT BIC bank account number

Details taken from a copy of a recent international payment I've made. I would assume that these are standard requirements whichever UK bank you're using.

Just those silly brits refusing to adopt the euro. We, other Europeans, have free money transfer between the different countries by using BIC and IBAN numbers.
