Question decent torch

I really want to complete my dive kit now that I have bought everything, but I am finding it hard to justify spending almost half what I did on a wing and twinset on a torch. Is there a way to get bright light and goodman handle for a price that wont require saving for months, or require me to eat happy shopper beans for 5 years?

You'll find that your primary light will not only enhance your diving comfort and fun but it will form part of your essential kit.....i.e a wise investment!

Have a look at the 10w Helios 4.5 or equiv for about £400 which will get you in the water or the pro 3 or 6 without busting the bank and a bit cheaper using SLA technology.

Also check out the Knackers yard for other good Salvo deals, he may have something up his sleeve for Xmas http://www.divingniknaks.com

Yep, as posted elsewhere here and on YD.

£395 for the 4.5A 10W Salvo, now thats a helluva lot of light for £395.

Now you get 4 hours burn time for that, versus the 2 hours burn time on the £345 SLA light that Rick quoted.

Just thought I'd point out where the 50 quid was.

You never know but one day your life may depend on a light signal, you want a light that can be seen if it does.

<cue aussie accent> "Call that a light?"
<deploy light saber> "Now thats a light!!"

You can pick up reasonable bargains second hand, if your budget is that tight.

There's always homebuild :D

Seriously though, the Airspeed Press book is well worth a read even if you end up buying a commercial product. The insight the book offers is, I found, invaluable to understanding and maintaining a can light.

Cheapest quality 4.5Ah 10W at the moment seems to be the Sea Elite. AFAIK this is made by Barry (it sure looks like one of his) but seems to be an exclusive deal as neither Barry nor Phill sell this model themselves (looks to be similar to the 18W fixed/twist lights but in the lower power). In the States this goes for $500 - see here.

As Rick said, certainly nothing wrong with SLA. The only caveat on the Pro 3 is the availability of the battery (SLA's need replacing more often than NiMH but they are dirt cheap). It uses a PowerSonic PS-1229 which they have discontinued. This is a 2.9Ah cell and the nearest capacity battery made by them (or any of the other makes, Yuasa, Panasonic, etc.) in the same dimensions is a 2.2Ah or so. So your Pro 3 may become a Pro 2

Joe, indeed it is made by Barry. It is however a FIXED focus light.

Cheers
