![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Significant Others Hi all, Welcome your opinions. How do you guys deal with a significant other who is not into diving? My girlfriend is not a diver at the moment but hopefully she will take her OW class relatively soon. Nonetheless, she's not going to want to go tech/cave diving. I don't have much vacation time and sounds like we would have to split between diving and non-diving vacations. My girlfriend has been really understanding and accomodating, but I am interested in opinions in anticipation of any issues. Thanks. |

![]() | My experience is that you should not try to push your s.o. into diving. It's great if they want to try but the momentum should come from them. Diving is terrible and a nightmare if you are not enjoying it but just giving in to some pressure or because you want to do somebody else a favour. It's only good if you want to do it yourself. There are many other things you can have fun with doing together besides diving. And yes, I would love if I could spend time with my girlfriend and be diving at the same time. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | thanks for the responses so far. i'm definitely aware that i should not try to push her to learn how to dive too much. i'm trying not to be a tyrant and let the impetus come from her as much as possible. i'm hoping that she will see how much fun we have and will be interested in her own right. |

![]() ![]() | I dive easy, recreational, warm water dives with my wife and I don't expect her to go tech path. If this happens sometime in the future she'll get my support. In the meantime my son started to dive this year and I expect my daughter to start next year. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Hi all, Give and take! My wife doesn't dive either (and isn't keen having tried it once and really didn't take to it). I'm lucky because she puts up with me heading off for dive trips - in return I try to make sure I spend some time with her!Welcome your opinions. How do you guys deal with a significant other who is not into diving? Holidays are about balance as well. If we go somewhere that I could get a few dives in then that's great, but I don't spend every day diving! She's supportive of me having a diving holiday without her (like Scapa this year), so I try to be grateful! |

| New Member | I have been a dive pro for a long time now and my wife dosn't dive much at all actually. The time I am out on the boat is like "my time", away from the kids. So just enjoy your time as much as possible. talking a lot about it is also something that could cause some peer pressure, so watch out. You wouldn't believe how many un wanting spouses I have trained. Total disater for both men and woman.

![]() | My wife has no interest in diving. In fact, she feels nervous in a deep bath. On the plus side, this means she has no idea of the cost of all my dive kit John.
