![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Happy Salvo customer Hope this is the right place to put this post! As a self-confessed light junkie Phill's '100 quid discount' offer on lights was too tempting, especially since my last light had done mediocre service for a couple of hundred dives and then apparently broken everything bar the delrin canister. Having booked up the next quarter's diving I just had enough money to spare to indulge, so went for one of the new Lithium-Ion powered 21W Salvos, the 7.2Ah version. I know there's some debate over the lifetime expectancy of LiIon batteries, but for the size and weight I'm more than pleased. The canister is smaller than that on my old 10W NiMH light for the same burn time, and with the smaller charger I can get the whole setup into a smaller carrying case, great for travelling. This is for me a great step - I've got much more light (the 21W is a world ahead of my 10W, the same way the 10W was a world ahead of my UK C4). I'm hoping this will make a difference when on flights which are tight on space and weight. It's a fair point that for a fraction of the price I could probably have seen the majority of things I saw today with my C4 and for Swanage Pier the Salvo was massive overkill, and to be honest had I had just my old C4 I'd have done the dive just the same. That said, the ability to flood focus made a world of difference with a cuttlefish, the long beam made spectacular effects with shoals of fish, so even under Swanage Pier a Salvo adds a little to the dive. Add to that that the problem of signalling to my buddy whilst in bright sunlight suddenly stopped being a problem - the new head gives a strong enough spot to be still visible at 3m in bright water. In summary, if you're indecisive over what to spend cash on and it won't cut down your diving, this happy customer recommends biting Phill's hand off for his discount Salvo prices, if one dive with the light is any gauge of how nice it is. And if you've just started diving and don't have a torch at all, get a basic backup light to start illuminating your dives and find out what the fun is all about when you start seeing lots more :-) Tim Last edited by tim; September 30th, 2006 at 09:19 PM. |
