![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Human Performance books list This is a small list with books I found valuable to consolidate and improve my knowledge regarding strength training & conditioning and human performance. Most of the books on the list are technical readings , but there are a couple of books which are not and directly usable by almost anyone. Enjoy 1. Life: The science of biology by William K. Purves, David Sadava, Craig Heller, Gordon H. Orians 7th edition A very good undergraduate level text on biology which an be used as an all around helper to get the basic bricks of anatomy & physiology. 2. Vander's human physiology by Eric P. Widmaier, Hershel Raff, Kevin T. Strang 10th edition An excellent text on human physiology , easy to follow due to its clear diagrams. An exciting read, I consider basic (a little) knowledge of physiology indispensable fori a trainer 3. Color atlas of physiology by Agamemnon Despopoulos, Stefan Silbernagl 5th edition A pocket reference in human physiology. Not a textbook, but rather a superbly illustrated manual, with hundred of illustrations in full, vivid colors. Not a book to learn from, but the book to refer to when you just need a fast refresher. The pictures will bring it instantly back yo you. 4. Metabolic regulation - A human perspective by K.N Frayn 2nd Edition *The* book on human metabolism. An integrative text, easy to follow, which offer wonderful insight inside human metabolic pathways, regulation and integration. Easy to understand , its not yet another dry text on biochemistry. Everything you need to know is here in this book. But is not a nutrition book, dont exepc to be told how to feed yourself I got this book after a talk with a person which is a member of Dir Explorers as well, a chick going by the handle Diving Princess. An excellent resource 5.Exercise physiology: energy nutrition and human performance by William D McArdle, Frank I Katch, Victor L Katch 6th edition A basic, introductory and reliable text on exercise physiology. Far from being in-deep , yet is complete, it touches most of the subjects including some talking about frontier line sports research , such as molecular biology applied to human performance. The text can replace a human physiology book for those which dont want 2 separate books , and dont need all the gritty details covered in a dedicate human physiology book. 6. Essentials of Strength Training and Conditioning by Thomas R. Baechle (Editor), Roger W. Earle 2nd edition NSCA sanctioned book, offers the very basics of strength training and conditioning. A all in one reference, which include notions of human physiology, exercise physiology, nutrition, kinesiology, strength training , basic exercises, conditioning, sport psychology, running a gym, legal aspects ... Due to its encyclopedic nature, of course the text cannot touch any of those subjects in depth. The book offers only what it title says, the essentials. 7. Science and Practice of Strength Training by Vladimir M. Zatsiorsky, William J. Kraemer 2nd edition A **technical reading**, basic notions of kinesiology, physiology and anatomy are a must. Zastsiorsky is an authority in this domain, and offer very valuable insight. This books influenced strength training in the world, and is highly praised in many circles, including at Westside barbel. Its a must read for anyone seriously interested in human performance , but not a reading for the normal fitness trainee or gym rat. 8. Supretraining by Siff & Verkoshansky 6th edition *The* book to own for strength training and conditioning. Arguably the best book ever written on the subject.A technical reading, spawning the whole field of stregth and condtioning. It was recommended to me by Ross Enamait. Enough said. 9. Starting strength by Rippetoe and Kilgore A very valuable practical book, a must have for any one which teaches himself or others the big lifts. The content is technical , pragmatic, through, on object , immediately applicable and very useful. A book which is useful to regular barbel lifts, but as useful to ppl which list sandbags, heavy tires and so on. Many tips here will keep you injury free 10. Strength Training Anatomy by F. Delavier Again a book with wonderful illustrations. It doest contains much text, but then again , its not missed. the illustrations imply show the muscles recruited during many of the regular weight resistance exercises. A very nice reference. However, I would love the book even more to be a complete reference on the subject, by including near those weight exercises reference for recruitment during bodyweight exercises , including planches and esoteric moves auch as the flag, the iron cross and so on, and to break down the recruites muscles in primary effectors, stabilizers, and so on. 11. Special ops workout by Mejia & Smith Training programs inspired by special ops units from USA workouts. Nothing special. A good program, i guess it worths 14 US$ or so as I apyed on it. 12. Infinite Intensity by Ross Enamait *The* book to own for persons which just want very sound advice and exercise selection for self improvement. Ross is a intelligent author which draws his knowledge from many works of top scientists, and practically applied and tested this information and knowledge. Its yet another of the must have books. The content is applicable to a very vast array of sports. 13. Practical Programming for Strength Training (Paperback) by Rippetoe and Kilgore I got it because of the high quality of the Starting Strength book. Its a practical book, with advices on programs for strength training. Being a very recent title, and because I received it only several days ago, I didnt had time yet to explore it throughly. 14.Kinesiology of the Musculoskeletal System by D. Neumann A comprehensive kinesiology text. 15.Fundamentals of Special Strength Training in Sport by Y. Verkhoshansky Another good reference to strength training. Although many subjects overlap with Zatsiorsky and Siff , the text does provide value even for a person which owns those 2 books. |
