I've done an intro in the intro section (can't post a link, forum won't let me) so I won't repeat it.

I'm going to start looking at gathering bits of kit together over the next few months, I'm just looking at basic rec type stuff so was wondering if there was any newish stuff I should think about taking a look at...

Used to have the usual Halcyon bp/wing setup, TLS drysuit etc, whats the current recommendation?

I realise this info is probably all available but I'm not sure I can manage to read through seven years of postings on all the different forums :big:

just joined here and thought I'd do a quick intro...

I'm based in the Southampton area and used to dive a few years ago. Did my last dive in 2005 but had to give up due to various outside influences.

I started with BSAC did some PADI & TDI then crossed over to an SAA club (UE-UK, was membership sec for a while if anyone remembers) and did DIR-F with Andy Kerslake & Andrew Georgitsis down in Portland.

Went on to do Tech-1 with Andy K but sucked badly :)

Anyway as mentioned then drifted away onto other stuff for various reasons but have recently been thinking about getting back in the water so thought I'd get on here and catch up with what's been happening.

Cheers,

I can understand the wreck mount, because it's more out of the way and less likely to get caught on anything, but what is the benefit of mounting the suit inflate on the cylinders? I thought it might have been due to size - the 6 cu ft on the backplate and the 14 cu ft on the cylinders, but on the picture below it looks like a 14 cu ft cylinder to me, or certainly bigger than the little 6 cu ft ones anyway, but I could be wrong.

*Advanced Coaching day Capernwray 20th May 1 place left *(Non novice day, the guys have asked for some ‘tough love’) £125

*GUE intro day part deux Capernwray 26th May 2 places left*. £25 If you are new to a twinset, considering buying one or are interested in GUE this the session for you. This is likely to be the last one this side of the summer. The last one was a great deal of fun and hard work. But don’t take my word for it, this is from an write up on the session.
“To conclude, the GUE experience day is frankly awesome. As long as you are prepared to go on the day with an open mind it is a brilliant opportunity to learn at least one or two things; these guys really do know their stuff. Even if you decide that a GUE route is not for you, you will have received brilliant teaching and video feedback”

Each of the following Fundamentals classes needs one more person to run. £550 ex registration cost ($95) and student expenses. Both classes can be taken in singles or twinset.

*GUE Fundamentals Capernwray Late July/August (date TBA) 2011 2 places available*. Possible split weekend course 1 day + 3 days. I have a student that due to family commitments would prefer a course over two sessions. The first would be an academic/swim test Saturday, then 3 dive days starting on a subsequent Friday.

*GUE Fundamentals Capernwray September/October (date TBA) 2011 2 places available.* This is planned a ‘regular’ 4 day class starting on a Thursday.
There is also the possibility for this class to run in warm water, such as Egypt or Malta. I ran one in Hurgada last summer and it was a great success. Excerpt from David Stringer’s course write up sums it up nicely:
“Doing Fundies in the Red Sea was a no brainer for me, it's an intense course where as much in water time possible is a bonus and a large amount is essential. Coupled with no daily site fees, and use of double Ali80's of 32% and unlimited use of the house reef all from Colona Divers coupled with a cheap all-inclusive holiday for food and accommodation meant it came out at around £250 more expensive than doing it in Vobster! (a no mask swim in warm water was much more appealing too)”

*GUE Fundamentals. Dosthill August/September (date TBA) 2011 2 places.* This is planned a ‘regular’ 4 day class starting on a Thursday, but could run in the 1+3 split weekend format.

Please PM me for more information or alternative dates and locations if the above don’t suit.

Both classes can be taken in singles or twinset.

GUE Fundamentals Capernwray Late July/August (date TBA) 2011 2 places available. Possible split weekend course 1 day + 3 days. I have a student that due to family commitments would prefer a course over two sessions. The first would be an academic/swim test Saturday, then 3 dive days starting on a subsequent Friday.

GUE Fundamentals Capernwray September/October (date TBA) 2011 2 places available. This is planned a ‘regular’ 4 day class starting on a Thursday.

GUE Fundamentals. Dosthill August/September (date TBA) 2011 2 places. This is planned a ‘regular’ 4 day class starting on a Thursday, but could run in the 1+3 split weekend format.

Please PM me for more information or alternative dates and locations if the above don’t suit.
