| New Member | Buenos Aires Shipwreck Hi All, Looking back some archives I found a video from a dive I did before my TECH1 on a shipwreck in Rio called Buenos Aires (no, it is NOT the capital of Brazil, Buenos Aires is the capital of Argentina!!!!). The wreck went down on 24th of June 1890 in a clear night by coliding with a small island that has a lighthouse in it (Ilha Rasa or "Shallow Island"). Some say that it was a scam get moneyfrom the insurance company. Everybody survived by the way...The wreck was a cargo/passenger ship, with 100,3m long and 11m wide. It was made of steel and had both propeller and sail propulsion. It is dismantled due to work that was made by the navy in early 1900s to make the place safer for navigation (demolition using explosives and steel cables). The depths go from 12 to 42m (sand), or 42 to 12 if you do proper planning.. :D Ths viz is usually around 5-8m, but the day we shot this video we had spetacular 15m viz with 24o water... (on the bottom we had 16o.. but what the hell, it is much better than Stoney Cove!!! )If you want to see the clip go to: http://www.sottomare.com.br/images/buenos_aires.wmv The clip was made by a friend called Jose Dias (JDias) who is a professional underwater camera man. He usually do some filming for the biggest brazilian tv station (Rede Globo). You can check his site at www.jdiasvideo.com. Have fun! NOTICE: not all divers in the video are DIR... ![]() |
