Question What about the exploration?

I was drawn to this site partly due to the title, I was hoping to see details of some actual exploration type activity. Is anyone in the UK doing much other than the usual shallow wrecks or quarries?

Ian

The UK is pretty crap at this time of the year - I've had my last 4 trips cancelled due to the weather. How about some trip reports from those further afield?

Thanks
Al

I'm off to dive in search of squid tonight (Redondo beach, California)

Not really exploration but beats sitting in traffic for 1.5 hours to get home!
Best diving of the year coming up for us.

Divbum is on a distinguished road

I spend most of my winter researching and planning for 2006, comdined with gear maintinence. We will do some fun stuff and splash in the ponds, but nothing exciting until the spring. I plan on diving Sunday weather permitting - but it will be around 39F from top to bottom or colder - so big dives are out of the queastion for the sane. I will have some exciting new footage come mid summer, but until the team is ready to share I cannot. But it will be new and at a moderate depth. Anyhow hope someone has something on this topic they can share.

Ian,

what sort of stuff are you after? Techniques, dive reports, procedures, wreck finding?

I'd be interested in a discussion about support procedures used for open ocean exploration dives with multiple teams, long exposures, etc.

Cheers,

Cali

I think what Ian is fishing for is reports from "big" dives, whether new wrecks, caves or whatever.

Where there is an element of "Exploration" of something new or maybe boundaries are pushed in terms of technique.

Ian is convinced that DIR divers only dive in shallow puddles :D Aren't you mate ?

Cheers

I think I know what Ian is getting at. As far as I know Ian is in a team of 3 who are working up to some big dives and have been doing some 90m dives to build some experience of depth and the sort of deco you need to do. I'm guessing he'd like to see if anyone here is doing anything similiar.

In my case I'm not planning anything remotely like that. I'm meeting some of the DIR-UK team in Feb to talk about possible projects for 2006 and I've also a trip to Cyprus and Donegal planned for next year but nothing in Ian's sort of depth range. I will post up some trip reports and info once we are underway, but given the current weather I've only two mix dives planned in December.

Cheers
Al

Ian,

Try the Shipwreck forums at www.deepimage.co.uk for that sort of thing. Not all uk, but some very interesting diving going on around the world.
