hi to everybody

i'm new on this forum..so..this is my first topic and i hope to received a good welcome

so
now the question

i'm thinking to made a tech1 course

but
i have also the possibility to made a triox course the next month, with my buddy

so
i wanna some suggestions, about these 2 possibilities.
Of course..my purpose is to "arrive" to obtain a tech1 certification

but...i'm considering to make it into 2 "parts" (first the triox...and then the second part during a tech1 course)

so
i wanna some opinions, especially from someone..who has made this choice: first triox..and then tech1

or the opinion..who has just obtain this certification (tech1)

thanks
Fabrizio

ps
my experience:
i have something like 300 dives..the 95% into garda lake
Before to enter in the "gue world"..my previous dive patent, was the Deep air and nitrox AVD, so..i have a "little" experience, using a deco bottle - but of course...in a way..TOTALLY different from the GUE standard -

If I had the choice like you do, I would ask the following questions:

How much diving are you going to do beyond the Triox depth limit in the future and therefore need the T1 ticket?
Why is your buddy going for Triox and not T1?
Do you have a buddy for the T1 bits? You can't do T1 bits as a single diver with the instructor acting as your buddy.
How much extra (money) will it be to get hold of the GUE Instructor to come back and do the T1 bits?
Have you spoken to the GUE Instructor about your options?

I, and the rest of Team Foxturd, went the whole hog and did T1.

Welcome to DIRx btw! Would be good if you can post a quick introduction in the Introduction section so that people can see where you are, what you have done and where you hope to go...

Regards

I think he covered most of the information.

Fabrizio, I have been thinking about the same thing but still don't know what I am going to do, good luck when you decide.

thank u for the fast answer

now...i will replay to your question

1) if the triox course will be ok...soon as possibile i will made the second part of the course (i will think...from the end of the triox course...it will be...1/2 mounths

2) my buddy choose this options..cause she wanna understand..if the tech1 will be her arrival point, or if the triox will be enought for her

3) yes i have a buddy tech1. More than one

4) this is the point. Some guys have organized this triox course. so the price is really ok..and a great occasion. For the second part..i will move without problem. I can make it here in italy, or in croatia..or in europe. It depends only by the offers that i will found

I have spoken with some gue instructor, and..for sure.. i will see him this week end, 'cause here there will be an halcuon demo day

but..i'm searching for some extra opinions..from someone..who has tried this options

my friend (who has already take the tech1) suggest to me to made directlu the tech1

but..u know...i'ms searching for some extra opinions!

ps
now i will move to the presentation part..

I found the jump from DIR-F to Tech 1 very large. Looking back, it would have been good for me to do Triox first and later upgrade to Tech 1. This way, the new skills and methods can be absorbed and practised in parts. Of course, if you are well prepared, there's no reason not to go straight to Tech 1.

Sometimes I think the best thing is to just "do it". So if your choice is between doing a triox course with 100% certainty vs. a tech 1 course that may or may not come together in the future, just go out and do the triox course.

No worries.

The reason I ask about buddies is because, as I understand it, you would need to find another buddy to do the T1 'upgrade' which might be your Triox buddy but if you can't find one, you would need to pay for the full T1 course even though you will have done most of it already.

Although TFT did T1 in one go (or that was the plan anyway), we had to split it over 6 months because we were not up to the requirements when it came to undertaking the course. This involved paying for Richard Lundgren to come and do the assessments in the UK. Fortunately he was here anyway so we only had to pay some of his travel costs but it was still some extra money.

If you can find another buddy for the T1 'upgrade' I would do Triox now and then consolidate the skills learned there before finding someone (or some money if you can't find someone) to do the T1 'upgrade' or the full T1 course.

Hello Brixio,

I have done the Triox class at first and the next step is the update to Tec1, because:

- I have time to train, I know after Triox my mistakes and failures, but I´m allready trained in diving Helium and did a lot of deco-stuff

- it´s not so much money at one time

But, if you familiar with all of the Tec1 stuff you can of course do it in one piece...

Best from Vienna, Hubsi

Hello, welcome to the board!

I went straight for T1 - the reasoning being both that all my buddies were either fundies-level or T1-level, and that I wanted to learn about decompression which had been a big mental block for me before the T1 course. As I understand it, triox is a non-deco course, and thus I didn't feel it would help me with what I wanted to learn. Having taken the T1 course and subsequent summer of working on skills I am happy with my decision.

Tim

I agree with Clare, time in the water is key. Focussing on the fundamentals, awareness, comms and having fun.

Having said that preparation is always a good thing.

It's a difficult one, as practice with the extra bottles would be useful, but there is a lot of scope for a visit from Mr Cock Up. So I'd say practice in the pool with the extra bottles, but then you could in grain bad habits and get frustrated with the bottle moving.

If you were sure that the stages were set up correctly, that your leash was appropriate, that you clip and unclip everything the same way every time, that you knew where to put each bottle and the leash on the hip d-ring etc etc etc then I'd recommend pool practice.

Something that I get a lot out of is trying to hover in position, with no fin movement, and doing every bottle move and switch that you would do on a dive. If you can do this then it will hone your fundamentals at the same time.

From there, maybe move to shallow dives with accelerated ascents as training dives.

Hope that helps.
