as seemingly normal 'proving its a light' seems to us divers that seems universally scary to baggage screeners. do not offer to turn it on to prove anything!

Apologies for that Ben - read it too quick and jumped to conclusions
No worries what I meant was watch this space for where I'm hoping to go diving. Hopefully if I'm not too lazy I'll get some trip reports up.

I hope you get one well with studies and your exam and if you get any time give me a shout and I'll go down to Portland with you.

That is seriously a very bad idea and not a very smart one. Finish of your degree then focus on diving mate. If you are not going to listen to anything else people have written to you fine, but please listen to us regarding this.

Sorry I worded myself poorly but your point is still true. I mean't if I'm doing well enough that I can take a weekend off then I will.

Cheers Ali,

Chris

I agree with Ali i do the Middle East london run twice a month and they are getting a bit more tricky especially as a couple of pissed pratts did the bomb gag on an Emirates plane last week. I am getting asked regularly to remove the torches and prove they work and thats just the scouts. Cant be bothered to carry the weight and the grief but I would stick it in hand luggage so you can show them. In the dive bag some baggage monkey may take a liking to the 21w at Thiefrow if they hadn't all ready chucked another 200kg onto your bag and flattened it, defo go with hand luggage. At least you know your special £1400 of investment is safe

I always remove the cells from my scouts and travel with them empty. Those batteries are cheap and easy to come by.

That was my main reason for carrying it in hand luggage the fear of theft or breakage just made it more appealing to carry it to make sure it was safe.

Hi guys,

A wee update for you all.

Firstly, I phoned up light monkey and enquired about the thread of the screws and the gentleman on the phone didn't even have to walk away to ask someone, he just said it was ..... whatever it was.

So a trawl around B&Q and screwfix revealled nothing.

Rang light monkey back and they offered to post me out some screws free of charge, but said try asking Deep Ideas if they have any as they are the UK distributor. Quick email with them yesterday and I find a jiffy bag with the right screws in.

As a bonus, I even got a minature bite-size Fudge!! Now thats what I call customer service!!

Secondly, the peli-case is sorted! I actually got it sorted ages ago but only just remembered to let you guys know. Here's the result! It took me a good hour or two , but the result is great, everything fits in nice and snug.

If anyone is tempted to get their own, let me know and I'll use my foam as a template and I'll be able to get your foam cut out right within about 15 mins!

Thanks again for all the advise!

katamuki is on a distinguished road

Why not send the equipment through the mail service to Florida several weeks/month prior to your trip?

Hi Katamuki,

Thats a good idea but the majority of us dive every weekend so unless we own 2 sets of equipment then its pretty tough to get by.

That being said, I am seriously thinking of sending my plate, wing, jet fins to the US a few weeks before flying

Cheers.

Ali
