Getting There....

I always thought my kit was "sorta" DIR compliant. Whoops. It seems anyone can chuck together a rig that is "hogarthian", but the devil in the DIR rig appears to be in the details. A chat with a few helpful folk from here and lots of fettling has been done. In the last few weeks I have....
  • "Acquired" a 24W Salvo, replacing Greenforce.
  • Replaced MDE manifold with DIR zone manifold and valves
  • Flogged 55lb wing and replaced with 40lb wing (should have done that ages ago, much prefer the 40lb wing in the water)
  • Purchased a DIRZone knife.
  • Purchased 2 Scout Backup Torches
  • Retied all my attachments with cave line and cave knots (removing all cable ties)
  • Redone the bolts on the set (they were knackered and of inadaquate shininess
  • Dropped 3kg in required weight down to 2kg after proper weight check
  • Attached bungie to drystui pockets
  • purchased required double-enders for drysuit pocket
  • Replaced huge mask and backup mask with Oceanic shadows.
But finally, at least from the kit perspective, I feel like I am getting there. See below. wonder what will happen next week :D

Question

Very nice.

Quick tip. Backup reg hose goes under the wing inflator umbilical and behind the long hose.

? Could rotate the right post first stage 180 degrees; this will allow easier access to the valve.

Gary.

chgeers gary, knew about the reg hose, havent laid them out properly in the pic!

As the first stage, if I rotate it 180 degrees all the hoses will point up, and actually its deceptive but the vavle is not obscured by the 1st stage at all.

You should be able to put the hoses on the other side of the reg.

However if it doesn't obscure the reg, then no probs.

What's with the plastic cover on the necklace?

Otherwise, looking good!

Hi Garf,

Clearly I am not in a position to comment properly but I remember on YD Clare's battery pack being critiqued for having the jubilee clips on the outside and was recommended to move them round 90 degrees.

A question also .... which way round is recommended for the battery pack ... switch inside or outside? Is it just personal preference and what are the pros and cons of each?

Thanks
Mal

It ain't such a big deal with the smaller cannister lights but when dealing with pro14's or so it does.

You can always move the clips round to avoid snagging line but be sure your not gonna damage your wing.

Again regarding the switch it aint such a big deal on the smaller lights but to keep in line have the cord on the outside.

I know that Al found that one way of placing the switch meant that his back up light could turn it off - and the other way it couldn't but I can't remember which was which....

Al?
