| Chimp 2 | Replacing thread on wing kidney dump Has anyone got a good step-by-step or link to a website that will walk me through how to dismantle a wing kidney dump and replace the thread with something a little more substantial Cheers

| Padawan learner | ya, that's the one i followed and it works a treat. Easy to get the knot to sit flush just be careful not to enlarge the hole too much.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Or you could plait(sp) some caveline on to it? I know a man who has done this and it looks quite good! (Might just hold his DSMB, Spool and weights to ransom until he does it on mine )David Last edited by Moz; March 19th, 2006 at 09:18 PM. |

I used plaited caveline the first time I replaced the cord on my pull dump, but it was too floppy and tended to lay in random orientation against the surface if the dump valve cover and the fabric of the wing. It was slightly easier to find in thick gloves than the Halcyon original cord, but TBH not that much easier.I then re-did the mod using thicker nylon cord I bought from a boat shop (if anyone wants to know the thickness, let me know and I'll go find out - it's at home and I'm at work). The aqua-seal I used first time was a bit of a pain to remove second time around (top tip: use the glue sparingly!), but got it clean eventually. A good episode of 24 on TV while you remove the glue is recommended for appropriate levels of agression. This time, with a slightly longer length of thicker cord, knotted in the middle and at the end, it's much better. Very happy with it now!

![]() ![]() | Rule 6!! I used a felt marker to color mine black only because I had time on my hands. If I were pressed, I'd forget it and let it white.. |

Cheers Unscrew the valve, peel the rubber 'gasket' material away, the string is now exposed. Cut the old one off and pull the knot out of the round plastic piece. Tie a not in a piece of cave line (use a piece about a 6-7 inches long so you have something to work with) Thread the line through the hole in the plastic disk so the knot is in the same place as the old one. Make the hole in the disk a little bigger if you need to. Don't forget the spring. Use a lighter to slightly melt the knot. No worries, if you mess it up, cut the knot off and tie it again. Melt the knot so it's flush with the plastic piece. Re-glue the rubber gasket onto the plastic piece. Put it together, tie a new knot and cut off the excess line. Simple. ![]() If you have any questions on how to do this, just ask. I'll help in anyway I can. |
