![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Spools Hi All, Bit of an odd question. Are the defender 75 and defender 100 Halcyon spools the same width? I know the 150 is a different size to the 100 but I don't think I've ever seen a 75. Thanks Al |

| Resident purveyor of shiney kit.... | Why would you want a 25m one ? If you're launching from 21m isn't it cutting it a bit fine allowing for drift etc. Genuine question born of ignorance :D Cheers

Someone I've know has a 150 spool but isn't getting on with it as they find it too wide to comfortably hold. They asked how much thinner a 75 would be and I had to confess I hadn't got a clue. I suggested a 100 but they want the thinest spool so I'm curious whether there is a difference between the 75 and 100.From what Bob's saying he has 3 different sized spools so I guess the 75 is smaller. Cheers Al |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I was wrong about the diameter! I just looked at my spools. The big one and the middle sized one are 3" dia. The smaller one is 2-3/4" The widths are 2", 1-1/2" and 1-1/4" I guess these are 75, 100 and 150' spools. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Spool capacity vs width Delrin or molded spools over ~100' in true capacity are too wide for me to hold comfortably with my finger and thumb. That's the reason behind the Stainless Steel Spools. Look here http://www.deepseasupply.com/page20.html The 100' capacity is 1.15" wide, narrower than a 1.25" wide 75 ft Delrin spool The 150' is 1.75" wide, just slightly wider than a 1.5" wide 100ft Delrin spool The 200' is 2.25" wide, .25" wider than a 2" wide 150ft Delrin spool Combined with a large center hole and very large radius on each end, the "reach in" distance is manageable, even on the 200 ft model. The Spools are negative, but not by as much as you might think, because the SS used is 16 ga (~.060"), and much of the buoyancy is determined by the nylon line. Nylon's SG is ~1.2 Delrin too is negative, as it's SG is ~ 1.5. BTW, I consider the true capacity of a spool to be the amount of line one can fit and still be able to clip off. Spools filled to the rails are kinda pointless. Tobin |
