Wrench in the pocket?

Do many of you carry a wrench in the pocket or is that more of a neccessity for the rebreather people?

Always carry a tool kit and various spare parts in the vehicle.

No need for a wrench on a dive unless your unbolting stuff off of shipwrecks :D

Check dive kit before the dive check it again at 6m and anything that can be screwed by silt dirt etc during the dive should be fixable or you should have redundant means to get back to normal breathing air.

As a CCR diver myself i can assure you the preview checks are even more critical than on OC and yes an extensive tool kit and spairs kit is there to cover the damed thing breaking.

The wrench is only for the RB when you need to convert regular stages to drive bottles while diving in a place where there are safeties (like Wakulla).

Best,
Peter

The last I heard was that this was mission-dependant and tied in with the whole 'finger-tight' debate.

Now, what the 'actual DIR' answer is I can't claim to know but apparently the latest from GUE was that connections should be tightened more than finger tight at all times and hence a spanner should be carried if it is mission sensitive that you may need to unscrew it. Which to me sounds a little bit convoluted. I can understand tightening up more than finger tight as the majority of people either don't check the connection before pressurising or, if it has come slightly undone, try to tighten it back up whilst under pressure, usually nipping the O-Ring.

Personally I dive my regs finger-tight still right now and just check them before pressurising, although I am toying with tightening them up properly in which case I will carry a spanner in my left pocket purely from a standard pocket contents point of view.

I have not yet had to swap a second stage underwater, but have had a team mate swap theres (actually they swapped the whole reg as it was easier than just the second stage). I guess it depends on your environment.

NOTE: I have not dived cave or rebreather.
