| Gadevang Underwater Explorers | Hey, I am going to exchange my Halcyon 10w HID with a new torch, but which one? I think I would go for salvo but the 18 21 or 24w HID ? Have anyone ever compared these torches ? You don’t have to mention the battery I will go for 9 amp I don’t need and cant afford the 13,5 amp :D Best regards Anders Knudsen

It's too bright. I've got a 21W 9A and am very pleased with it. However- the Halcyon 10W is not a bad unit. Although the Salvos are brighter, you don't really need all that scary light unless you are frying fish. |

| Jock Exley | Woz is correct IMO.... Unless you do go for the 18W then you will need to get a Salvo as Halcyon don't do 21 or 24w lamps AFAIK The 18W Salvo is the closest colour temp/spot match to the Halycon equivilent! HTH

![]() | I'm sure you'll be impressed with whichever you get - I was diving before Christmas with my trusty Halcyon 10w HID and was seriously outclassed by the array of 21 and 24w HID torches down there with me. I seem to remember there isn't much difference in the Lumens figures between the 18, 21 and 24w HID lamps

| Resident purveyor of shiney kit.... | Well I see my fan club got here before me. :D Thanks all ! Just to correct ahar (sorry) There is a substantial difference in Lumens on the range. 10W = 510 lumens 18W = 1300 lumens 21W = 1500 lumens 24W = 1800 lumens 24W is a video light as has been said, the 18W is the most popular light, having the best colour temp (steel blue white light). The only 21W light available is the remote ballast unit. Also a point to bear in mind the H lights have the (some say) fragile WA bulbs in. I know I'm biased ![]() Hope that helps some in your deliberation, if not give me a call and I'll see if I can help you through the maze. Best

| New Member | I love my Salvo-Knackers 9Ah 21W light (fully paid up fan club member, Phill!), but when I dived with Al recently (who I think has an 18W bulb... and I've given up trying to re-write the following so it doesn't read like some sort of gay porn...) I spent the first half of the dive moving my head in and out but nomatter what I did the spot his made on the bottom was so much tighter and cleaner than mine. I'll get my coat... but while I do... IIRC, the light from a 24W bulb I saw was a *little* brighter than mine, but nothing like as good as the 18W beam. The advantage does seem to be down to the different (cooler/bluer) colour temperature of the 18W bulb Al was using (though apart from the 10W, they all looked bright enough to me to get the job done). So,I want one too now! Where can you get an 18W bulb from in the UK (Phill ?), and is changing the bulb just a matter of (carefully!) taking the cover off, pulling out the existing bulb and slipping the new one in, or do you need to change electronics or resistors or other stuff I'd not be happy to do with my scary-many-hundred-pounds-worth of light?David

IIRC Nackers does an "upgrade" for about £130 where you get a new bulb and bulb cover (as the 18W is longer). You can use the same ballast.I'll get my coat... but while I do... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I swapped my Salvo 21w out for the 18w after NikNaks loaned me one to try in Oban... IMVHO a much tighter brighter light. Well worth the upgrade in my opinion, I'm very very happy that I did it. |
