Far be it for a simpleton like me to question, but I thought colour temp was a function of the metal halides in the tube and the operating current/voltage across the tube.....

Feel free to correct my simpleton knowledge..... its not like it'd be an unusual situation...

As above I had already arranged to have my light upgraded over the weekend.

Popped if for a quick dive with Davey Willo on Saturday .... and was reminded just how much better the 18W version is.

(Thanks for the company, Davey)

Davey took the light to Phill for the overnight upgrade .... and so my first dive today (altho somewhat pre-occupied and more of that later) I was really looking forward to my new shiney torch only to be faced with a failure boy was I dissappointed.

Fortunately Phill was on site and a quick bit of fettling and a replacement bulb was found (okay it was in Phill's torch .... ) Second dive of the day ....still otherwise preoccupied but got to try out my new torch....Wow it is significantly brighter. If you have the spare £125 then I would highly recommend it...

Thanks Phill and Davey ... your help was very much appreciated.

Mal

Is this (21w 5600k) the old bulb, the new 18 - 24w bulb or the new bulb with old ballast. To two later maybe equal, I guess.

Erik,

Those figures were for the old bulb.

The new style bulb in a 21W ballast gives 6500 lumens.

The 18W really is a thing of beauty. I've just stuck an EKPP reflector on mine - just for the shear hell of it. :D
