![]() | Before moving to Japan, I changed from a ScubaPro Nighthawk to a Halcyon Pioneer 36 (SS BP). I dove this with a single steel 95 and needed no extra weight. Now in Japan I found that I need about 4kg (~9lbs) to keep from being a bobber. I am looking to buy the Halcyon ACB20. I would like to hear what other people are using and the pros and cons. I know people who love their DUI harness and others that are content with a weight belt. Also, does anyone know if the ACB20 will lay flat with only 9lbs in it. In the near future I plan on upgrading my underwear and would like not to need to buy both the ACB12, 20 and 30 (still available here in JP.) Any thoughts?

| New Member | wEIGHT BELTS FWIW..I think I they are crap..My wife has the ACB20 ..Wanna buy them??? Whats wrong with a weight belt and keeping your cash for something better ..like a scooter I believe other than the ACB 30 you cannot use a Canister light ...that in its self tells me enough .. Could try a combo of Fixed ie P Weight on B/P and some ditchable on a weight belt.. Mind You your Light is part of your weighting ![]() Andy |

Were you diving fresh water before coming to this part of the world? Just wondering because you said when you got here you had to add 4kg. I've seen divers using weight belts as well as those using ACB20 systems. The original ACB20 made it impossible to mount a canister light without making a serious modification. In a pinch I've seen the right ACB removed, the canister light placed on the harness and a small lace through weight threaded in front of the canister. The new ACB20 system is designed different and can be moved to different positions on the harness allowing for the canister light to be placed on the harness first. As for laying flat. The original ACB pouches have velcro inside that kept the pockets as flat as possible whether weights were inside or not. The new ones are made differently and I haven't seen how they lay yet. I'm sure the GUE Instructors on this forum are cringing by now. I'm just sharing with you what I have seen, not trying to tell you what's wrong or right.

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I use weights on a normal belt. Up to 6 kg it is all right, higher it starts to be a pain in the back (luckily I have managed to cut down, so I stay under the limit). Another good option is a weighted single tank adapter. Gives you 3 kg, neatly and comfortably spread on your back. |
