What size bolt snaps?

I'm in need of a few bolt snaps for various things and am agonising over what size to buy. The jobs i need them for are;

Clipping off backup lights to chest D-rings.
Clipping off pressure gauge to hip D-ring.
Clip for my primary regulator hose for when it's not in use.

What sizes would you recommend for these?

I have seen that 90mm clips are very popular but would it be worthwhile looking at other sizes at all?

The options i have readily available are;

64mm
76mm
86mm
90mm

I'm guessing that 90mm is the way ahead.

I use the 86mm boltsnaps on my SPG, primary and backup lights.

A lot depends on what type of gloves you'll be wearing. I use the blue "smurf" gloves and I use 1 inch (extra-large) bolt snaps for everything except the snap on my primary second stage. Sorry, I'm not good at converting the metric system to the American system and can't tell you what that will be in mm. I work with a lot of people in the UK and sometimes I still need an English to American dictionary.

It will never be right if we convert it either.

Normaly when we talk about 90-93mm (~3,6”) boltsnaps, it means the over al lenght.

Manufactuers categorize them after the inner diameter of the ring.
Your takes a 1” rope. And will “here” more likely be a 100mm bolt snap.
They will not swollow a 3,6” thick ropeJ

Metric or imperial, they are not messured up the same way.

Some unnecessary information from a snowy Sweden.

BTW dictionary books are good, but why a dog barks vov-vov in swedish and voff-voff i english, although it the same dog, is more difficult for me

Happy New Year

I’ll update my –Profile- J

Sometime it’s so many things I want do say (or inform) on this forum,
but my writing and english is way to bad.

Sorry for destroying this thread.

A 63mm bolt snap for making a rabbit leash.
86-93mm to answer the question.
1” for deco-rig.

Now to the important thing:
Then you open it, your thump must not cover the opening.
If it does, it doesent matter how long or big it is.

And, if possible, try to find the bolt snaps there the “thump knob” isn’t a hoop itself.
No big thing, but lines finds al possible things to hook on to.

I use small snaps on back ups, spg and primary. Just a matter of practice getting used to them, 4/5 dives. Also useful in identifying stage snap on waist d ring / left shoulder d ring as stage snaps are larger.

Don't be too quick to buy the largest Boltsnaps that you can, I use the 1/2" boltsnaps on pretty much everything (Apart from stage bottles, I think my stage bottles have slightly larger clips on). If you have larger boltsnaps then they are easier to unclip with thick gloves on, but much much more likely to clip to each other, and unclipping them like that is a right pain. For reference I use the blue Smurf drygloves too.
