Warm water kit?

I am off to Bali in four weeks time and plan on taking my 3mm full suit is it going to be warm enough for this (25oC + I would think the suit will be ok for multi day, multi dives, recreational diving)

Im looking at a single cylinder wings and backplates

Is the 30lb Halcyon Eclpise with ali backplate the way to go? I notice there is currently a special edition Blue/ Black which in the interests of style would even match my Blue black 3mm suit

Advice greatfully recieved... re suit thickness for Bali? (Ive also got a 5mm full suit if need be but would rather use the 3mm if the water is going to be warm enough) and a single cylinder setup.

G'day,

When I go to warmer water, Hawaii, Great Barrier Reef etc etc.. I use a 5mm Probe wetsuit and am toasty, you could get away with a 3mm but I still prefer my 5mm, it lets me do deco and depth if I want plus staying warm between dives. Don't forget to glue on some pockets.

As for the wing and back plate, thats what I have without the blue bits. Then the standard long hose and necklace, ooh so pretty lol. I have a MK25 (yoke) 1st stage and 2 Apeks xtx50's as regulators, works nicely and handly when I'm hiring a tank as not all places have din tanks. I call it my 'sports' setup and it only rally gets used when I travel and do nice shallow pretty reef dives.

Have fun
Dave

Water can be in the low 20s in Bali (21-22 C).

If you plan to use the 3 mm full suit, definitely take a warm hood. I would take the 5 mm suit just in case.

AL bp + Eclipse 30 is perfect. I also use a yoke setup (MK20/S600/R390) for warm water locations as DIN tanks can be hard to find.

EDIT: back from Bali.

Water temp at Crystal Bay (Nusa Penida) was in the 16-22 C range (August '08). I ended up wearing a full 3 mm wetsuit with a 3 mm Farmer John on top of that, AND a 5 mm hood (yes, time to buy a DUI 30/30). Did not take my canister light, so a ss bp + Eclipse 30 + 2 kg (1 kg on either side) on the upper tank strap was my config.

For Tulamben, water was warm and a 3 mm wetsuit was more than enough. A ss bp + Eclipse 30 (no additional weight) was perfect.

I'm off to Tulagi on Sunday and I'll take 3mm wetsuit with ally backplate, both Evolve and Eclipse wings. Took the same to Vanuatu last year. We used twins on some dives which were fairly deep and long and we were fine,- cold wise. You should be right in Bali with the same, especially coming from Britain. If you're a bit worried throw in a light hood and vest. Re pockets I use a set of Halcyon shorts on wetsuits, they're great. Make sure you take Yoke adaptors as they're not always geared up for DIN.

digital steve - I use a 7" hose on my 'sports' setup, I'm 6'3" and a 5' would be way too short. tucked in behind the light canister is stays nice and close to the body.

Where do you plan to go in Bali? Nusa Penida, which has few great dive sites and is known for mola (sunfish) and manta, averages around 18C in August. I'd recommend that you bring your 5mm wet suit along with the hood.

You wear one of 'subaquatic's' SS knives [i got mine thru' your rec.] Route the hose across your front and under the knife pouch. That's what I was taught to do before I got a canister. I use a 7' hose all the time, I'm 5'9'' and it's never been a problem.

The comments on water temperature are spot-on. It can be very variable around Bali - anything from 18-25 degrees... me? I dive DRY - with just a base layer.. some think it overkill but I am a notorious WIMP when it comes to being cold.. I'd rather be warm and smiling at the end of the dive.. of your two choices definitely 5mm if you are planning the standard Bali 4 dives plus a night dive day.. you'll need a hood and gloves too.

But then you're probably not a softy like me..
