![]() | Salvo: 12w LED or 10w HID? I've been looking at buying a light with a blue H on it but their recent price increase has led to a change of mind. You seem to get more for your money on the Salvo's. Has anyone had the chance of comparing the Salvo Rebel 10w HID against the Salvo Rebel 12w LED. I believe the LED is fixed beam and the head is smaller and more neat. But which one is brighter. Any thoughts - which way should I swing? I've got Heser backups which I absolutely love. Just as a comparison (obviously their applications are different), does anyone know (technically speaking) how bright they are compared to the two lights in question? ![]() | LED : 1W is about 70 lumen at the moment HID : 1W is about 125 lumen at the moment you can do the math yourselve I guess. light is more then lumen (light output) the reflector and so are also important in relation to the final result but the difference is still that big that the above mathematics are quite accurate |

![]() ![]() ![]() | HID : 1W is about 125 lumen at the moment I wish they were, but as far as I know HIDs are at about 50-90 lm/W, with the output/W increasing with higher wattages. 10W HIDs are around 500lm, and they actually consume closer to 13W... 50W HIDs hit the 90lm/W range. |

![]() | Hello, I just picked up 2 of the Salvo 12 Watt LED lights for my wife and myself. We just returned from a week in Cozumel where we had a chance to use them on an ocean night dive and a cenote trip. While not a comparison to the Salvo 10 Watt HID, our guide on the cenote trip had a Dive Rite fixed focus 10 Watt HID. From what I could tell, the total light output was pretty much the same. The Dive Rite seemed to have a little tighter hot spot. However this could have been a product of him being closer to the object than I. Overall I'm very pleased with the light. One thing is the clip on elastic handle is not my favorite. The light tends to pop out of the handle. I sewed some velcro to the slack ends of the elastic and wrapped them over the top of the light head to kind of hold it in the clip. That seemed to work pretty well. Thanks, Ron |

![]() | Ron, Is it the case that a metal handle can only be attached using the C-clamp? Would it be possible to upload a pic of what you have done with yours? Last edited by Bitropey01; June 12th, 2008 at 01:26 AM. |

Yes, the metal goodman handle still attaches to the light head via the delrin c-clamp. Looks like from the comment above it still likes to pop out. I made a crude drawing of what I did. I think this will explain it pretty well. If not let me know and I will try and get a picture of it. I have pretty large hands and still had plenty of elastic hanging off each side to make this mod. This seemed to work pretty good but I've only used it a couple of times. Not sure why they didn't just go ahead and put some threaded holes in the light head like on the 21 Watt. Thanks, Ron |

![]() | I haven't had the light in water with the cable tie, so I can't say how well or if it will work. The guys at Salvo tell me that they were forced to use the C-clamp because the metal casing is too thin for screws to hold. |
