![]() | Spare Proteus 3 battery I dived with my new Proteus 3 on the weekend and it performed brilliantly. However, we were camping and I didn't have a light for half of the last dive because I couldn't charge it overnight. I'd like to get a spare battery for it. The battery is a PowerSonic PS-1229 SLA battery which costs about US$30. However, I can't find anywhere that sells those particular batteries here in the UK. I found an appropriate one in terms of voltage/current (12V 2.9AH) at Maplin but it's too large for the cannister. Any ideas? |

![]() | Hey Owen, can you let me know as I will have the same issues at some point Glad you liked the torch! On a side note have heard different things about re-charging the proteus 3 battery. The manual states that the battery should be left always attached to a power source when you have a 1/2 week break between dives. However I have heard that this actually kills the battery life time from a couple of sources. Does anyone have experience with this and could advise? Cheers, Michele |

![]() | They've quoted me a very reasonable £8.18+Vat per unit. Plus £15 P&P if I order less than £200 worth. I think I'll buy a couple ![]() If anyone else on here wants some and can pick up from South Kensington, or Ascot let me know (before tomorrow evening) and I'll see what I can do ![]() I'll get you a couple if you want Michele. Cheers, Owen |

![]() | That is very interesting. Not sure what proteus battery I have but it's the big one. What are the dimentions of the battery? I was struggling to find the plastic disc that goes between the batteries. Have you found a place that can make them? I think that you need to top up your batteries once a month if not diving. Mac |

Mine DOES have a plastic piece glued onto the battery into which the prongs on the lid fit (does that make sense?). Essentially this is just a guide to ensure the polarity of the battery is correct, and that the battery doesn't rattle around in the canister. I was going to fashion my own from a piece of wood (or maybe just not bother - I'll just have to be careful plugging it in!) Last edited by jonesor; June 3rd, 2008 at 08:05 PM. |

![]() | Hmmm.... I have just discovered that mine is the old Proteus Explorer Pro 14. It's the one where two SLA batteries go into. They are joined together with plastic disc - just to stiff them up. I had to change the batteries some time ago and I couldn't find a new plastic disc. (I have recycled the old one). New Proteus is different. But the charger still takes up to 30 hours to charge the batter full. It would be useful to get a spare set.... Mac |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Mac - your Pro 14 has different batteries to the Pro3/Pro4. Pro 14 uses 2 batteries end-to-end. Pro 3 uses 2 batteries side-by-side, but different batteries though. That "disc" between the Pro 14 batteries is a bulkhead which is needed to prevent the cannister distorting (and leaking) when it goes deep. Pro4 doesn't have or need a bulkhead because the cannister is much shorter. BTW those PS1229 batteries are getting tricky to get hold of these days. HTH Bob |
