![]() | New aluminum backplate I want to buy new aluminium backplate generally for travelling (less weight). Is any special difference between below brands except the price ? Halcyon Aluminium Backplate - £101.00 Agir-Brokk Aluminium Backplate - £65.00 Dive Rite Aluminium Backplate - £55.00 I only noticed that Agir-Brokk backplate has different placement of upper holes for webbing, see below pictures. Did anyone tested Agir bp and can say something comparing to Halcyon bp ? Is any backplate lighter than 1.5lb ? ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by robhass; May 25th, 2008 at 01:29 PM. |

| Moderator | I had an Agir Brokk BP and wing when I started down this route, then I decided I wanted to change to the donut style wing so I bought the Halcyon full set but there was absolutely nothing wrong with the Agir. If I wanted to buy an Ali plate just for traveling I would probably choose the Agir but I take the SS so I don't need one. |

![]() ![]() | There's the hybrid plates (Steel & Kydex) such as the DeepSeaSupply Kydex one, but it still weights 1.6 lbs Wings / Backplates / BCD's, Kydex Backplates at divingniknaks 0121 707 5783. Frog, Dirzone, Agir Brokk Scuba Diving Gear There's also the bone shaped light-weight travel plate, but I'm not sure whether they're any lighter than 1.5 lbs. ![]() | I think I'm right saying this but double check. Agir Brokk do a shorter backplate with rounded off (not angled as with the Halcyon) lower corners. In the pics you've posted the Agir definitely looks shorter. |

![]() | Agir website says: Short Backplate - H 360mm W 255mm (source: Backplates) Halcyon BP is ~400mm (H) The question is Agir selling backplates in standard dimmensions ? (like Halcyon, or Diverite etc.) Jarek Last edited by jarek6; May 25th, 2008 at 08:00 PM. |

![]() ![]() | No Practical difference other than the halcyon doesn't have adjustment holes for back plate placement. Check that the prices are all for including harness or excluding. Looks like a big difference.

| New Member | I am not sure the Agir can take a 2" crotch strap.....only a major concern if you are scootering, I think The Dive Rite plate does not have the necessary hole to mount a Halcyon pocket.....not a big problem if you are confident with a power drill. The Halcyon has nicely bent back lower corners. The Halcyon one I had seemed to have a coating which would mean it might not react so quickly in salt water. HTH Mal

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Why not try a Titanium plate as made by BST Prodive and others? Hard as nails, has no problems in saltwater and is much lighter than aluminum. The only problem is, drilling extra holes in a titanium backplate without a good drillpress is an exercise in futility. Michael |
