![]() | Proteus 3 - Focusable or Fixed Beam? What are the pros and cons of a fixed beam (Proteus 3) versus a focusable. I'm a cheapskate and the fixed beam seems appealing as we will need 2. Also does anyone know if the new Proteus 3 (delrin lid) has a better battery connection system than that used in the old transparent lid version? Is it black and red wires or the solid plug connection system used on the Explorer lights? Last edited by Bitropey01; May 11th, 2008 at 10:17 PM. |

![]() | Very helpful thanks. Am I right that your Pro3 appears to be fixed focus? How does this compare to focusable? Is it a spot or a wide beam? Mine is a fixed beam, I thought about getting the focusable, but am glad I didn't. If anything I think it could be even tighter. |

![]() | I have not measured the angle of the focusable but i personally find that the focusable 10 watts is brighter then the fixed. Try it out with the two spot side by side. the focusable gives a higher temperature beam. Not sure if its my eyes though. ![]() |

It's the most popular torch amongst those in the Plymouth DIR group. 2 of our guys have the fixed version and find it works ok, they also spend less time faffing/focusing their lights during a dive, but those with the focus version do have slightly clearer signals.
