![]() | Glue a pocket... Now then. Time to get myself a decent pocket to my oceanic dry suit. For those not in the subject it's one like a dui but few thousands cheaper.... Bit yellow but I am working on it. I have already decided to go for a medium halcyon pocket. I was advised to glue it in a place where my hand ends - that is on my thigh. Looks really simple but I had few rather disturbing thoughts - what if I choose wrong glue. - should I glue it to an empty suit or rather have it on myself when gluing. Has anyone done any gluing before? Mac |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | - what if I choose wrong glue. It'll fall off.Bostik 2402 or the two pack contact adhesive they sell in chandlers for repairing RIBS (usually advertised as hypalon adhesive) is the stuff you want. DON'T use Aquasure or anything like that. Clean both surfaces with a safe solvent (choose wisely...), depending on the surfaces it may need roughing a little to provide a key. Put the pocket in place, draw round with some french chalk. Mix the glue and apply a layer to both surfaces (inside the chalk line). Let it dry. Apply another layer. Let it dry(ish). Then push the pocket in place. It's contact glue so it will stick instantly, getting it wrong means a LOT of cleaning. Press it down with some sort of roller, end of a screwdriver handle, etc., to get a good surface contact. Leave it 24hrs and that's it. If you're wearing the suit then you'll cock it up and you only get one shot.Good luck.

I'll add a couple points:Bostik 2402 or the two pack contact adhesive they sell in chandlers for repairing RIBS (usually advertised as hypalon adhesive) is the stuff you want. If you're wearing the suit then you'll cock it up and you only get one shot. Good luck. 1. Tape the outline of the pocket on the suit in masking tape. Keeps the suit clean beyond the footprint of the pocket. (This is particularly important if you never learned to stay inside the lines in grammar school )2. When working with large areas of contact adhesive proper positioning is often hard to acheive, and you have one chance to get it right. There is a way to improve your chances. Dried, ready to assemble contact adhesive only sticks to itself, not to surfaces without glue. You need a sheet of almost anything, card stock, like the back of a pad of paper, or a thin plastic sheet, etc. I've used a piece of sheet metal with good results. Lay this sheet over the prepared area on the suit, leaving only one edge exposed for about 5-10mm. This allows you to stick down this first edge straight and square. Now just slide the card stock etc. out the other side as you continue to press the pocket to the suit. Much greater control, works like a charm. Good luck, Tobin

![]() | When we glued Halcyon pockets onto my CLX450 last year, I put the suit on and then we placed the pockets in position so that while standing up I could touch the bottom of the inside of the pocket. We then marked the poz, took the suit off and glued them on! |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | I agree with cmalinowski. I've had pockets that were too small, never had one that's too big. If your pocket is too small and you cram it full it will be a big bump on your thigh. OTOH a big pocket with the same contents won't be as turgid. Tobin
