Dui Zip Gloves

Argh.

DUI confusion.

New suit arrived earlier, I want to go diving in it tomorrow.
I am confused, even following the owners manual, how exactly do I get the zip gloves fitted, or how the heck can I get the zip seals back in place, I think I might be better trying this later tonight with the help of Stella or Jack.

Any hints or tips (apart from bang head of the wall)?

Guess the suit arrived with the zip seals fitted? (mine did). To remove them, and put the zip gloves on, just find the "gap" between the seal and the suit. Pinch between the thumb and forefinger on the seal side next to the gap (forefinger inside the seal). With the other hand, pull gently on the suit side, also next to the gap, perpendicularly to the suit. The zip should start to open, and from there it is really easy to "peel off" the rest of the zip.

To put the seals back on (or the zip gloves), just align the groove with the notch and pinch together all along the zip. A little soapy water may help them "click" together. Obviously you need to orient the gloves properly. Doesn't matter for the seals.

Note: don't look for a zipper. They mean zip as in "zip bag". It is exactly the same idea as a zip bag, only a little more robust.

lol, ok agreed on no zipper there then... the name can be a bit confusing.

Just align the groove and the notch and pinch together all along the zip. Pinch every half inch, and do one more lap once done to make sure. You should feel the groove and the notch engage together, and you can even hear them "click" sometimes. A bit of warm soapy water may make the job easier.

And now be careful not to punch holes in your dry gloves, because you would flood the whole suit... that is the big downside of zip gloves as compared to ring systems, or even dry gloves with their own seals.

I keep a spray bottle containing a solution of around 10% washing-up liquid in my kit bag. A quick spray and the ZipSeals will just fall into place then.

Failing that just run your tongue around the groove.

To get the zipgloves onto the suit, I found that the zipper lube that came with the suit works in a pinch. At home, I just use soapy water (for the zipgloves, not the zipper!).

Hi,

Putting the ZipSeals on/off is sometimes very challenging, especially the neck-seal and the ZipGloves. Conversely the normal wrist zipseals are easy to put on even when no soapy water is available.

In the field, I use a sponge which contains some soap to lubricate the zip seal. I store it in a very small tupperware container. Easier to carry in the dive bag than a bottle of soap, and no leaks.

Kind regards.

Cyrille
