Cylinder Labels

What are the minimum requirements for labelling cylinders in the UK?

I ask because I've just built myself a twin set and it looks great with no labels. If I go to my LDS I will end up with a massive Nitrox or trimix label, an O2 sticker the size of a small car and my nice clean cylinders will be treated as free advertising space for them. I much prefer the cylinders to be white with no reading material at all.

Thanks

This is one of the few things that I think BSAC have got right.

http://www.bsac.org/shop/accs.htm

At the bottom they have cylinder labels. Just cut the BSAC logo off and you've got the minimum required size of sticker. All you need in addition is an O2 clean sticker.

Seems like you need a new sticker for each fill though, right? Unless you *only* dive nitrox for a given tank?

Here (in the US), I've been using a bit of masking tape

Nah, You just leave the Trimix sticker on them all the time and use a bit of Duct tape to label after a fill.

Thanks for the link John - I've ordered some of the labels from BSAC.

you can stick the label on so that it sits against the wing as well. That way you'll never see them anyhow.

Don't know whether BSAC have updated their stickers but IIRC the nitrox ones are now required to have a yellow diamond saying "Oxydizing Agent" as well as the green one.

SITA also do the mini labels (up to date markings too). Either buy in bulk or pick them up from the SITA/HSE stand at the Dive Show.

For your back gas cylinders (twins on this forum, I guess!), lots of folks seem to have their initials too - is this necessary and if not, why might you want to anyway. Where do you get them from?

presumably having your initials on your cylinder, means you can recognise it (and hterefore its contents) quickly.

get car number plate decals (from Halfords in the UK) or make your own from Avery laser labels - there's a couple of posts on this very point on YD including http://www.yorkshire-divers.co.uk/fo...ighlight=decal

Halfords wont sell them anymore unless you have the Vehicle Reg document with you. Now how bloody silly is that !

Don't buy the lovely house number ones from B&Q either, look nice, not waterproof enough :D
