350 Explorer only available for international orders?

I'm in a market for a new drysuit and I've been looking at either the DUI 350 Explorer series or Diving Consepts dry suit.

I live in Switzerland, but now and then visit US for business. I though I better make the weak dollar work for me... and save a pretty penny. Anyway I contacted a webshop I bought my last DUI from years back and asked for a quote on stock size Explorer. They came back saying Explorer is only available for international orders for DUI? I find that interesting. WIth current rates, I'm not particularly keen on paying 2200+eur (as available in Europe) for a drysuit. I know diving consepts are delivering and having ok prices.

I'm not sure what to believe, I did do a quick google and managed to find 0 netstores in US selling DUI Explorer. Odd.

Can someone in the 'know' elaborate a bit more as it seems I can't buy the darn suit from US??

Hi,

As far as I know, DUI doesn't provide the explorer series suits to American dealers. They are only available through international dealers.

I am sure if you email DUI directly they will explain why.

What are the standard features on the Explorer Series? Can it not be ordered as a Signature Series with the correct choice in options?

Cheers!!

Kevin has a point..

I priced up a signature series against an explorer with the options and the signature series came out cheaper..

If you can order the signature series throught the US dealer then it may work out better..

The explorer can be bought only from European dealers but they are nothing else than a signature with options and if you buy it in the US, as I did, it will certainly be cheaper. As a matter of fact I bought mine in Miami while I was there and I had it send it to me in Switzerland, where I have a residence,...no problem. I bought two of them and if I recall well the local tax duties in Switherland were around USD 200.-.....remember since I sent them abroad I did not have to pay US taxes.

Note that when I bought my DUI's the 1 euro bought only USD 1,30 Euros now it gets me USD 1,53 + !!!!! that is a lot of wanga...!!!

Thanks for the hints.

Icarus, do you know what are the extras needed to build one? Though I'm not sure I'm so keen over DUI to risk custom suit with options.

I did have a chat with DUI about this and apparently they have agreed with "International Distributor" not to sell them in US. I don't really understand why, well I do. Too bad the current currency rates have made it impossible for me to cough up 2400e. Just too much.

Ursuk, Protec and Diving Concepts will have to be investigated I guess. I'm not sure If I'm going to be in Asia anytime soon. Otherwise Graham's suggestion would be gold.

JMak

you should have that offline talk with GrahamHK - the prices in Asia are competitive, and US$ linked in many currencies - maybe there is a way to get a sensible arrangement...

I bought mine out there through one of Graham's resellers - unfortunately the US$ was higher back then - but the "Signature" suit I bought was very competitivly priced..

Whilst it is possible to spec up a Signature Series TLS so that it's virtually an Explorer, be aware that DUI will refuse to fit two Explorer-specific options to anything other than an Explorer (I know - I tried!). These are...

1. CLX Overlay with the overlay wrapped around the outside of the forearm
2. Cordura knee overlay with wrap around calf protection.

Other than these two options, a Signature series can easily be brought up to Explorer spec. As others have said, an Explorer-spec Signature (if you can live without the forearm and knee overlays) works out cheaper than a 'Special Production' Explorer...

Hello Julle;

I tell you the options I got in mine.

P-Valve: Not explorer specific but I had to have it.
Two Pockets
I got the standard wrist seals, not the zips
Turbo soles

Even thought the cordura overlay are explorer specific I did not get it because of the advise of the dealer (he was not pushing the sale), Cave 2, Tech 2, WKPP diver so he had my attention. DIR divers are not suppose to touch anything so why add weight to the suit?

The custom went very smooth I only noticed a debit in my credit card...

Besides that I can tell you that I do not regret my purchase. Even if DUI's are expensive they are worth the extra money.
