Steve.B is on a distinguished road

Question Halcyon torch?

Hi

I'm considering buying a Halcyon 18w HID Pro6 torch from a friend, are these any good? Or am I

As he's a mate I can get it quite cheap, which is good as I don't have a lot of money left and I'm trying to get the best value for my money. Like most people I guess.

Anyone?

Cheers

Steve.B

I know there is a 21W 4.8LiOn Salvo going on YD for £400 from the West Midlands if you are interested, less than a year old if that sways you.

For a 10W I'd go for the Halcyon Pro 3 fixed, anything bigger and Salvo is your friend. Even a good deal on a Halcyon won't compete with the Salvo range. They're just more torch for your money.

Poppycock!

The Pro6 18W is a great torch - I have used them for years - they are solid and reliable. If you want to go hammering portholes off with your torch then you might wanna consider another brand - personally I just look after my gear.

Erm, I've got a mate who offered to give me (for nothing) his broken bulb flooded knackered battery torch. A Halcyon 18W. He'd had it sent back about 3 times, every time a different failure, and got to the point where it wasn't worth leaving in the bag as a backup.

I prefer to have gear I can hammer nails in with and then treat it reasonably, instead of having to wrap my gear in cotton wool. You can't hammer nails in with a Salvo, but if you did you'd be in better shape than the Halcyon I'd wager.

The only thing which has kept my faith in H torches has been my Pro 3. I've seen all sorts of other models with problem after problem. And my gear gets more abuse than almost any of the people I've seen with problems.

Well, not sure why some people seem to get through so many bulbs, I started with one and it's lasted me years. Maybe I'm just lucky

I'll put it to good use...

I can't be doing with Halcyon HID's either. The bulbs are just too fragile compared to the Salvo's. I had a proteus 3 and went through a bulb every couple of dives at one point. It went back three times to the Portland Death Star as well to no avail. Gave up and flogged it for peanuts in the end. still on the first bulb with the Salvo after a year.

Either they have changed the bulbs or you are just a heavy handed chimp I am still on my first one, no problems yet.
