scorpora will become famous soon enough

Best O-ring material

Now we got the dash number for the O-rings, the next is which is the best material for the lights O-rings: VITON, SILICONE, NEOPRENE, PTFE, EPDM, FEP or POLYURETHANTE

I just receive the book from airspeed press and doesn´t say anything about this.

Scopora.

Depends what you are sealing. O rings on your reg tend to be 90 shore A EPDM or nitrile. Sometimes viton but personally I prefer EPDM for O2 use as viton gives off some real nasties when burning. For light cannisters then a softer material would be better, say a 70 shore A nitrile as you need to conpress it a little. Dont bother with silicone (too soft and easily damaged), polyurethane (too expensive), PTFE (too hard and has no memory), any of the flouro compounds (incredibly expensive). Nitrile should be fine and they are pennies.

For me it's a question of using Viton or EPDM, Viton self-ignites at 100 degree higher then EPDM (so it's safer) but Viton contains flour and seems to break apart easily so I'm leaning towards EPDM because temperatures can reach up to 500 degress and i would rather not get a dose of flourgas when one of those viton o-rings oxidizes..

Cheers
Jonas
