Nimh chargers

I'm once again looking into Nimh batteries after a long hiatus -- but only as a backup for for dives during which I don't care if my light goes out.

Any suggestions for chargers?

My choice for 12V systems was Graupner Ultramat 14.

-good for NiMH packs up to ~20Ah (I've got a 20,5Ah 10x2D pack in my 35/50W HID)
-has 100-240VAC input - no need for separate 12V source (most higher-end smart chargers like the Triton need one)
-shows the amount charged, gives a lot more confidence in the pack if you see the expected juice going in...
-reasonably priced, only about 2x the price of the skimpy batteryspace chargers

Most "charger" problems associated with NiMh packs are actually battery problems.

If your batteries are assembled in true series only configuration, not parallel / series configuration, most commercially available chargers sold today will work fine.

Most commercially available chargers are based on a handful of very similar IC's anyway. The charging protocols are all very similar.

If you build a parallel / series pack there is no charger that can reliably charge it.

I have had excellent results with the Maha C777 plus
MAHA MH-C777PLUS-II Universal LCD Battery Charger Analyzer Conditioner for NiMH & Li-ion Digital Camera & Camcorder Batteries

Its a little slow at 880mA, but does an excellent job. Also has a temp sensor, burn testing function, and switches from NiMH to Li-ion. And the price is nice too.

They're D cells in series only.
