| New Member | DIR regulators As I understand it the 2 "approved" regulators are the scubapro mk 25 and the apex ds4. Again AIUI the rationale for DIR kit selection is about choosing the best hence having 2 bests does not make sense to me. How were these 2 choices arrived at? TIA Mal

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | The regs you mention are good regs. There is no "approved" list of DIR regs. The regs you mention are very different. The Mk25 is a piston, the DS4 is a diaphragm. The Mk 25 costs nearly three times as much as the DS4 (in UK). Performance, configuration, adjustability, compatibility etc. are all deciding factors when choosing a reg. Take a look at this guide........ http://www.fathomsdown.com/dir/REGULATOR%20ADVICE.pdf this will help you to make a decision. Most of us are using Spro Mk20 or Mk25 or DS4's Personally, I'd go for the DS4 (for UK diving) HTH Bob |

| Resident purveyor of shiney kit.... | I thought one of the "stipulations" was that a second stage had to be capable of being stripped and "repaired / fixed " underwater. That knocks a lot of regs out straight off of course. Please correct me if I'm wrong ?

![]() | What is the cost of a MK25 and a DS4 in the UK - then please let me know euro or pounds so I can covert to USD. And also is ScubaPro Lifetime parts over there? And is Apex 2 years or less (service vs inspect) Just wondering???? I have been moving over the scuba pro for lifetime parts - annual services were just costing to much. |
